Giantsfan98
I was wondering, which way you think I should go I have a 4.3 and a 305 motors in my garage. And I want to put one of them in my 75 620 I Just got the frame I'm going to use it will be 4 wd with a 6 inch lift and on 33s so I was just wondering which motor would be best for this build Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
4.3... a V6 is more likely to fit. I also had a 305 and measured it front to back and there's no room for the rad and the grill. 1 Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Plus the 305 is a pile of shit. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
So is the 4.3 for that matter. Is the 4.3 TBI or Vortec? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Plus the 305 is a pile of shit. Ha ha Well the cams in them sure are. Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
It's a vortex it came out of a 98 s10 they both need rebuilds so I will most likely be rebuilding the 4.3 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I would never recommend a 4.3 TBI to anyone, but if it's a Vortec, I would use that one istead of the 305. How do you know it needs a rebuild? If it runs, do the swap with it running and then tear into it once you've got all the bugs worked out. When I do an engine swap, the motor comes in and out about 10 times before it's final anyway. Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
4.3 vortec is better than a stock 305 all day long. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
So is the 4.3 for that matter. Is the 4.3 TBI or Vortec? Since it has two more holes,it's the bigger pile of shit...by far. 1 Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
It runs like shit its knocking pretty bad so I was just gonna go for a rebuild Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
Well u guys r saying the 4.3 is also a piece of shit so what would be a good v6 motor for my build Quote Link to comment
denmarkboy
As mentioned above the 4.3 is shorter always a bonus when your talkin datsun and swap in the same sentence . The 305 is a boat anchor at best , If you were thinking about v8 I would use something else . The challenge will be the same either way , the firewall is going to need work and so will the frame near the tranny mount, exhaust, driveline . All of these things are basically going to be the same . denmarkboy
Well u guys r saying the 4.3 is also a piece of shit so what would be a good v6 motor for my build 4.3 vortech is a good engine .i have never rebuilt one so i dont know what the cost will be . but i have had many of these engines over the years and 90% of them were very reliable and cheap to maintain . Giantsfan98
Ok I have to do some research but this is the engine I'm gonna build Quote Link to comment
Power Tryp
http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/113-0208-chevy-43l-262ci-v6-engine-build/ I gotta say 4.3 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Do you have any emissions testing in NC? If not, the sky's the limit as for engine swaps. How about a GM 3800SC? It's a 3.8L supercharged V6. Nissan VG would be an easy swap, but I don't particularly like those. Not much HP for the trouble. It's going to cost $1000 minimum to build that 4.3. What trans would you run behind it? Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
Shit, forgot 4x4. My buddy had a 4.3 in a yota, not sure what trans he used though. I'll try to get hold of him to see. It was a 5spd but not sure what out of. Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
No there is no emissions test down here I'm trying to figure out what 6 cylinder to use I want one with some power Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
And if I do use the 4.3 I will have to find a new trans anyway the one that was in the truck it came out of was shot Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
Is there a better v6 out there that has more aftermarket parts fit it that would be a good engine for my build.... Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
It needs to be gm though so it will bolt to my t5 5 speed so. The transfer case will work its. I'm setting my 620 body on a s10 frame becuz my frame is trashed it's a lot of fab work but I can do it Quote Link to comment
DaBlist
For crawling around in the woods and rocks in a smaller rig you can't go wrong with the GM 4.3. I'm not a fan of guys bouncing off of the rev limiter offroad trying to get the job done with low torque engines Quote Link to comment
Giantsfan98
I understand my only problem is from what I've read the heads suck ass as far as airflow Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Then get vortec heads Quote Link to comment
