paradime
Great Movie, but that scene is a direct rip off from the movie Harold and Maude ten years earlier. As for Mods and Rude Boys, you either get it or you don't. Skin heads aka Romper Stompers in SoCal may have ridden scooter too, but that was a whole other thing. Quote Link to comment
RatVonDude
real mods sold their scooters for speed! remember this place? Quote Link to comment
paradime
Oh hell yah. Did you take that pict? I lived two blocks from there on Vallejo at Grant in North Beach back in the late 80s. My wife and I lived there for 13 years. The guy who lived under us, Phil Sinclair was the manager of that place and the Hungry Eye back in the 60s. He was booking acts like Richard Pryer and Barbra Streisand before they blew up. He was also the publicist for Lona Turner before she died. Man could that guy tell stories. There was a film made about his life called Public Relations: The Phillip Sinclair Story. He passed away in 95 and all those stories went with him. It's sad what North Beach has devolved into. Fucking fraternity extension program today, but man was that place hop'n back in the day. We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of it. We moved there after the 89 earthquake and paid $700 a month for a 750 sq ft one bedroom. Today that same place is renting for $2,800. All that funky culture was wiped out in the dot com hurricane. Now the whole city is indistinguishable from any boomtown USA. Money ruins everything cool I guess. 1 Quote Link to comment

I missed all the comics and such. Had a wicked good time at that place watching/playing in bands. Almost every Friday night a small group of scooter guys would pull up, some of them old school like when there was the BAT CAVE You might recognize some of these folks http://youtu.be/caEJEUQXdJQ 1 Quote Link to comment
