Not sure 100% on the accuracy of this but.......

Supposedly some group of aviation engineering peeps used the tech drawings that the Wright Bros had for the Wright Flyer and then they set about building a replica.

After meticulously copying the schematics and specs to the letter they could not get the thing to fly at all.

I do realise that the original only was off the ground for a very short period of time and did not achieve any staggering altitude however it's odd that the process could not be replicated.

Yet of course the principles of all planes since are based off this experimental plane.

Possible that on an experimental prototype that the actual plane wasn't identical to the schematics?

Quite possible! The Colt model 1911 had been made by Colt for 30 years when WW2 broke out. The War Department [ no use for namby pamby "Defense Department" terminology they!] Wanted a large increase in output from Colt of the M1911A1 pistol. No can do due to production limitations. "Then sell us the drawings and we will have other manufacturers build it, after all it has been in production for 30 years" was the response! Done! Then the War Department found out that parts built exactly to the production drawings could not be assembled into working pistols! Why? The pistols were assembled by gunsmiths, not mechanics! Gunsmiths learned "the art and science" of hand fitting the parts as part of their apprenticeship! The final solution was to have Colt produce Skeletonized fully assembled and functional pistols and provide these examples and master gunsmiths to the "other" contractors and instruct the final assemblers in the exact fitment required to produce fully functional and reliable firearms. These skeletonized examples are now the most highly collectable Colt 45 pistols and are often faked!

Possible.

I do not have the exact details of the project as it was undertaken but from what I recall the orignal specs/details of the 1903 Flyer were used.

The main point that I recall of the whole thing was that ironically we have all manner/size/variation of aircraft using the same equation for controlled flight yet the design that they derive their essential idea from could not be replicated and made to even do the limited amount of flight that Flyer 1 did.
