That's correct, the British figured out that by coming in on a curve helped the pilots keep the landing officer in eyesight and they could see his landing instructions. By solving that problem, and technical ones, the Corsair was fit for Carrier Duty in 1944 2 Quote Link to comment
DanielC Posted November 22, 2019 Report Share Posted November 22, 2019 There are two versions of the F4U Corsair. The different versions are easily identified by a three or a four blade propeller. Less noticeable is the four blade propeller versions had a longer nose, to accommodate a 28 cylinder, four row radial engine. The three blade versions had a two row 14 cylinder radial engine. The large propeller diameter got close to the runway on takeoff, and landing, so the wings were bent up at the landing gear location to raise the fuselage and engine of the plane farther from the ground, or carrier deck. 1 Quote Link to comment
