Smaller. Better. Slower. Lower.

Recommended Posts

This is what you need below, you also need a front case from a 1980 Datsun 720 with a 4 or 5 speed, put the 80 case on the 85/86 transmission, and it will bolt right onto an L block, and the shifter will come out the stock 4 speed hole/dogleg 5 speed hole, but you will have a stronger transmission with a normal shift pattern.

That's the 720 trans then.

As far as I know it came in the 85-86 2WD regular cab 720.

You and I both man!

Both needed transmissions are proving to be hard to find... Well here.. Next day off I'll go back to Tommy's and look again for either trannys. But it didn't look like they had anything we could use.

Then again I was grabbing other stuff that day...

1985-86 regular cab, short bed, 2WD 720. That's it.

Wayno says to use the bellhousing from a 1980 L20B 720.

But I'm wondering if other bell housings would work.

I'd take an A10/S110 dogleg in a pinch then sort out the 720 trans later.

No other compromise.

Don't really want to fuck with a long tail either.

Way to go Keith.

It did ride perfect with the cut springs. And it has brand new inserts.

It was a super comfy ride.

And with 155/50/13s it was the perfect hight.

I realy hope this one works out for you man.

I know it will.

I was told a local yard had a set of Supras.

I sent Kevin_Sheats down there while I was working.

This is what he brought back...

Keen. Normal cost: $140. Kevin's awesome customer discount: $100.

Dismounted crap tires. Hit them with a pressure washer.

Mounted with a nice set of used 175/65R14 Fakens I had.

Wheels are a little stained, but in great shape.

All 4 wheels balanced out great. Only 1 took a little over 2oz. total. Win!

Fitment is great. Better than I thought they would be.

Need to source some lugs for now then try them on the 210.

From there I can figure out the final size I want to stick with.

If the truck bellhousing works, then a 280ZX bellhousing should work. Other than the ratios it's basically the same trans.

Umm... S110 is a longtail...      ;)

And not a dogleg, it's a straight pattern. Only L-series dogleg is the S10 and early A10.

Glad to see you found my thread, DF.

I had the same thought. Seriously-why wouldn't it work? 71B is a 71B. L bolts to an L.

I thought Mike would have corrected or confirmed at some point.

Mike must not like my thread.

I meant S10. Early 200sx.

Question though-if I had a dogleg from the Z20, would the bell from an L dogleg fit the Zs?

They're both 63As, aren't they?

I am terrible with the trans info.

But then you'll need the 200SX fronts too.

Go ZX fronts. Stock front brakes are garbage, especially with anything stronger than a stock A15, and then you get the gangster deep offsets.   B)

Now this is a deeper subject I have put a lot of thought to, but little confirmation on my thoughts.

Stock-the fronts stick out further than the rears-correct/match track width with 280zx struts. Right? K-

200SX rear to get swapped in, will it now match the track width of the stock 210 struts?

If this is true-I have been picking the brain of 2 other guru about an upgrade of brakes using the 210 stock struts.

Another thought-has anyone made a disc conversion for the rear of the 210/H150 axle?

Thanks for checking out my thread, Datsunfreak.

This just adds to the knowledge base already checking the thread.

Having you and gg around will help a lot, I'm sure.

Yes about the Dogleg. I have a Z and L dogleg. I plan to swap the front case of the L to the Z as I have no first gear synchro, second is on its way out, and 3rd randomly will snarl at me. Though the 2 have slightly different over drives.

Thanks, Jacob. I thought that they would.

Yes, it would. Same exact trans, just different twist on the bellhousing and rear mount. Otherwise identical.

But I honestly don't imagine the L bellhousing is any easier to find than a complete L trans? Unless of course you get lucky and find a broken L trans (sadly, not uncommon).

Find a short trans is not an easy feat.

Got PM'd by a guy selling an L dogleg Monday. Worked out a deal and agreed.

I asked again "Do we have a deal?" He reassured with a yes.

Mind you, this one is 250 miles away, one way-so it will take my whole day. And I'm paying more than asking price for him to meet me at the edge of town.

He texts me yesterday-"Do you mind if I show it Saturday to someone else?"

Really? There is more to it, but I'll keep that to myself for now.

Bonvo just came up on a dogleg too. 280 miles, one way. Cheaper price. Condition unknown.

And I guy here in town has a 71B short Z trans that I made an offer on. A high offer.

Downfall-I'd need to find an L bell and my good friend here in town is ALSO looking for an L bell.

ARGH!
