I think its miserable on a rebuilt motor if its actually burning it. Its ok if its leaking a bit of it.

 

My sister has a car that has almost exclusively seen 10k mile changes. It burns 1 qt in 10k miles, it is now at 140k.

 

Like ggzilla said, if this guy is burning 1/8th quart in 1400 miles, that's 1 quart in 11200 miles - better than your sister! ;)

ALL engines use oil.

If you think your engine does not use oil, that is because as the oil is being used, the volume is being made up by combustion byproducts diluting your oil.

That is why you change the oil on a regular basis.
