Jdm720
I'm curious... How fast have you guys gone on your stock engines..? I mean besides any exhaust modifications... I've been hearing most 720's going about 70-75 comfortably, but how fast if you give it a little push..? I was coming home down the 105 eastbound the other day and decided to floor it, and I hit 90 easily, but then I hit traffic... I plan on doing an engine swap once I get my other car done, so I'm gonna push it all the way just to see how fast this thing can really go on the stock engine right before the swap  (after I get my desired stance with kung fu grip on the road of course) Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I have done 83 in my stock 521(L16, 4 spd, 4.375 gears) according to my GPS speedo. Quote Link to comment
Jdm720
That reminds me, I was going off of my GPS too.... Seems pretty accurate though, comparing it to speedometer indicated speeds in a few other cars I've been in.. Quote Link to comment
poor-mans-720
I did 74 MPH!!!! had everything i had in my right leg pushing the pedal down.... Completely stock motor, 10" lift, 33" swampers, 4.37 gears, low on gas and empty truck bed. maybe, might have been on a slight down hill with a good tail wind. I hit the bottom of the hill and it started to slow, 73-72-71-70... 65 held steady!!! but my truck is tall... super-super tall!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
Jdm720
That height surely factored into it... Quote Link to comment
poltroon
i got up to 68 in my 1300, downhill, breeze in the tailpipe... never was able to reproduce that speed. all the rest of the time, high 50's was the max. Quote Link to comment
Jdm720
Oh another question, what were your RPM's...? When I hit 90 I believe I was more or less around 4500.... I wasn't exactly focused on my tiny stock tach..... Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
I've done about 65 in my 620. Nothin but a header and a weber. And 4 speed of course  L20B screamin the whole way. I have no tach, so screaming is the best you get :P 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
No tach for me either. My foot was not to the floor yet...5,000 RPM's. Guess. Quote Link to comment
chester
I would love to join in on this, but mine isn't stock. Screw it! On the way to Canby this year, I had to catch up to Farmerjoe cause he decided to go on off on his own with about 10 miles before the exit we needed. So I stepped on it kept it in 5th and by the time I caught up to him the speedo was pointing at H of MPH on the 620 speedo. I was still going to but had to slow down. I am running a L20 with peanut head, mild cam, weber. 2.25" exhaust, 4.11 gears, and about 500 miles on a rebuild. I think I can Safely say I was doing over 100. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ratty260z
If you count a stock L28 out of a 280zx with SU's and a Header and 4 speed as stock I got up to 125mph in my 260z, I'm sure I could have gotten a bit more but it was getting scary the road was a bit wavy. I did have a front air dam and spoiler which helped A LOT. Quote Link to comment

Fastest I've gone so far on the freeway was 140 though :geek: I've heard those 260's are pretty fast completely stock.... Quote Link to comment

I just now realized this was posted in the 720 subforum haha, but yeah I drove it the night I checked it out and it was pretty quick for being stock and having sat forever in a field. zed
I don't romp on my trucks. Stock L18 I never went faster than 70mph. Modded now, I cruise at 75 with a trailer Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'74 710 sedan with L18 and 25K original miles, on way home from Canby in '11. Has MPH speedometer that year and read 90 on a very slightly up hill. It's also an automatic for those who think they suck on the highway. Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic
Mostly Stock '76 620 King Cab, with a 4-speed... I've done 85. Had lots left. Nothing but a Weber and a matchbox dist, but it'd do that with the Hitachi. Trans and rear gears are OE stock stuff. I've had my 520, with a J15 and a 4-speed up to 75. I think the rear gears aren't original though. I think it has 4.375s in it. Dave (Bre620) thought I was nuts. My 4X4, I hit 80 once trying to keep up with Icehouse and friends... I think I had the 5-speed in by then, but I don't know for sure. Quote Link to comment
DAT510
No tach in 510, around 75 MPH L20B screaming with 3 speed auto  45mph in J13 521 cause it feels like it's gonna blow up  0mph with a L28 :sneaky: Quote Link to comment
Dead91silvia
heh heh... everyone thinks I'm laughs when I tell them... My dads (now mine) 720 I got to 85 ish once, going down hill. However, we later found out that the trans that was in it had the wrong spedo gear... I did the math, I go it to 105-110mph... down hill and that took about a mile! haha!!! This was in high school, about 1998. It will get to about 75-80 on the flat. But she dont like it much! 65mph is happy for the little truck... Oh, the truck has been and is still stock under the hood, L20 with stock Nissan carb and original exhaust and 5 speed... 200+k on the OD... Quote Link to comment
