She joked that i would probably make her stop to look at it on the way home. I replied that it was pretty cool looking, but I'd better focus on my dattos. She asked what it was and I said I didn't know, definitely late 60s to early 70s. Probably a Lincoln or something. She said her guess was Plymouth. After our three hours in Beaumont, I had all but forgotten about it until we got close and she reminded me. I said i wasn't worried about it, but she said we had an argument to settle. Had to stop. We found this. And she is in love. I've never seen her look twice at anything that wasn't lifted and 4wd. Her birthday is coming up in May, and I've been sneaking around behind her back plotting to make this thing her gift. Quote Link to comment

My neighbor was a cop back in '66 and had a new cruiser just like that one. He said it would do 130. When it hit 50K they retire them so he bought it at auction. His son and I took it out, but it only did 115. When we got home he comes out with a smile and says 'so how fast did you go?' (we kept quiet) (fawk! how did he know?) :lol: He goes over and lifts the hood and puts a plug wire back on. Quote Link to comment

Bad news: 2 miles before I got there it developed a ticking noise and started to make a lot of white smoke. I think it got stuck in second gear and caused some valve damage. Should be easy to find donor parts for it, 383-400 stuff will fit, some 440 parts but they usually have a premium anyway. There are some guys out there that think anything Mopar is made of gold and will charge you for it accordingly. One of these days I'm going to start searching hard for a 69' Coronet 500, not that I haven't already I just can't afford the ones I find. I have a 73' D100 400bb w/ the heavy duty everything package and helper springs, has one dead cylinder (rings) and I can still pull 28ft boats or 2 tons of gravel in the bed no problem! I hadn't checked the tranny fluid before bringing it to my shop, so I made that 20 mi drive with the tranny3 pints low. Could explain the shifting problems. Topped off the motor oil( which looks like its a year old) and took it for a spin down some back roads and it shifted and ran great. It's got 3 different brand spark plug wires on it, so those and the plugs and oil change are next on the list. As for the ticking, it's definitely under the valve cover on the right side and it comes and goes. I agree with the noisy lifter diagnosis. Paint is awful. Gonna see how much is left after I buff it before I decide what to do there. Flaking from nose to tail with intermittent bondo cracking on the trunk lid. Quote Link to comment

Tried one on and it rubs the back side when the wheel is turned all of the way to the left and the suspension bottoms out. They tuck about a half inch farther than stock. Should I try and find a spacer, or just run stock til I find a wheel that fits better? Quote Link to comment

Her besty said she would so i went with it. I bought everything for a tune up and a buffer for the paint, but by the time I got the wheels swapped, I was exhausted. Gonna try and get some more time free for tuning before her party/reveal March 19. I live on a short leash, so thats cutting it close. Quote Link to comment
