Cpl620
its looking like favor is with C. so, not much done today. ghetto rigged the rear frame in place along with more measuring and leveling. tacked more braces on and start to cut new frame pieces. i have to clean up and ship some parts off though, and i blew a few outlet panels too. hitting the reset buttons and flipping the breakers does nothing. damn chop saw... :frantics: last final render, some things are not right on it, but thats the game plan more or less. 1 Quote Link to comment
Work280
Question are you using a fuel cell in the bed? It looks good. Iam just finishing up the rear sub frame mounts Iam using a q45 rear end which is narrowed. I like all the cross bracing, it will look really clean when it's all said and done 1 Quote Link to comment

Cpl620
Showing A some love :) Watching this. Get at it! Im excited for this long weekend coming up. I can order all the suspension parts and get a lot of the mounting done. Question are you using a fuel cell in the bed? It looks good. Iam just finishing up the rear sub frame mounts Iam using a q45 rear end which is narrowed. I like all the cross bracing, it will look really clean when it's all said and doneThanks! Ill be getting a 10-15gal cell from summit or something. The cross brace in the back will prove to be a tight fit since I want to drop the cell down bellow the bed, so im trying to figure how to work that out. Ive seen people swap the Q45 diff, but not the whole rear end. I'll have to check out how you did it. 2 Quote Link to comment
Work280
Rci fuel cell 2172a it's 30 x17 x7 and it holds. 17 gals but it's the only one that I could find that was bellow 7.5 inches in height . Q45 axles from t3 for there 280z swap that brings the back axle width down to 53 inches , then Iam sectioning the rear sub frame to meet the needed width Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
Oie. That seems like its going to be a pain in the but to keep everything true with sectioning that subframe. Thats still pretty long. Im not sure if I can fit the length anywhere. I may just have to bite the bullet and sink it between the bed and frame. Quote Link to comment
Work280
I've built a jig to keep it all square that once I've cut it I just slide it together and reconnect everything. It's only time;). The tank fits behind the sub frame and the rear cross bar . That's the plan anyways 1 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
not much done, obviously. hope everyone had a good turkey day! i had to do some more measuring and make sure the new frame pieces were straight. it still looks like the inner face is out of wack, but its level all the way across. i have to go get some more cutting disk and hit the tool sales tomorrow. i hope i can get out of the stores in time to work on this a little. finney
Why not build a new rear clip out of RHS? it will be stronger and look cleaner? Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
Why not build a new rear clip out of RHS? it will be stronger and look cleaner? Thats a good question. Ill have too see if my suplier has the dimensions. And I think they only sell in 20' so thats going to be expensive and more than I need. The scrap I bought to do the whole frame section only cost me about $25. Quote Link to comment

Cpl620
i'm interested to see how your mounting the fuel cell, I havent quite figured how I want mine in yet Ill probably put it in the bed just for ease of access. With all the cross nrace I have going in I dont think ill find a spot in the frame.i coulf maybe get a small race tank, but I want a 15gal for road tripping to events and what not. Cpl620
mother of god! all the major measuring is done, that took way too long. one or two angles are skewed 1/16th, but its all even length and height wise, along with being level. im going to add some more triangles in the frame before i close it up since ill have mounting points directly on this new section, just want to over kill it where i can afford to. supply run tomorrow for strut tower tube, bench grinder and a small anvil. 1 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
getting there. running around all day left me short on time again. i need to just sit down and work on this.... 1 Quote Link to comment

Cpl620
so, bending metal with a anvil and hammer sucks.... a little hard to get it to shape right so i had to cut down the piece to fill the notch further up the frame. pleased with the work today. not a whole lot, but i got the new rails all sealed up and one brace bar in. I still need to make mounting points but first i need to figure out the height in relation to the front suspension, i cant start to make the strut towers without that figured out first.... 2 Quote Link to comment

'70dime
I like the idea of using the strut brace to position the struts where you need them while the mounts are fabbed. Keep the updates coming! 1 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
yeah, with how many lines i had to pull, measurements made, levels checked all before i got to tack the stuff in place i figured this was the smart thing to do. I seen it done a few times before. i thank the guy who thought of it first, haha. i have 3 weeks off between school coming up soon, that should be a good enough chunck of time to get most of the frame done. maybe even get it rolling....
