squatches
anyone have any problems with their a14 dieseling? Quote Link to comment
LeviGideon
I've had a problem on my a15 dieseling. If you know your anti-dieseling solenoid isn't bad, adjust your choke, make sure it isn't sticking. Also adjust your idle mixture, make sure it's spot on. My a15 is real picky about idle mixture. All else fails, stall it out in 4th while shutting off the engine. Quote Link to comment
squatches
i dont have the anti dieseling solenoid, im using an a12 carb. ill try playing with the idle mixture tomorrow, it only diesels sometimes its not constant but still annoying. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, by design it will diesel. Thats why 1200 carbs added the antidiesel valve. Quote Link to comment
squatches
so will the idle mixture fix my prob or no? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Nothing will fix the dieseling. It is a by-product of the open chamber cylinder head, which started in 1972. So for 1973 they added the anti-diesel valve. You can minimize dieseling by reducing idle speed (try 600 rpm). Quote Link to comment
squatches
well poo.... haha mine idles at about 900 anywhere under that and its not to happy, and runs like ass at idle. Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
anyone have any problems with their a14 dieseling? Yes. But this... All else fails, stall it out in 4th while shutting off the engine. Most Datsun owners I know have become masters of the "clutch kill". Right foot on brake, left foot on clutch, slide it in a higher gear, and while holding firm on the brake pedal you turn the key off and release the clutch at the same time. 1 Quote Link to comment
squatches
clutch kill it is!! haha 1 Quote Link to comment

squatches
so i pulled apart the original a12 out of my 1200 and found this.. anyone ever had a valve look like that? the head and piston have no marks or scars on them. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, it's burnt good. Perhaps from too tight valve lash and they kept driving it. Quote Link to comment
