squatches
has anyone on here swapped a 1200 to rhd? i searched around and from what i found there isn't to much on it besides it being costly, or rarer than unicorn farts. or has anyone used rhd parts from a 180Sx to accomplish this? i know this may be nothing more than a wet dream for me, but atleast i can dream right? reasons for wanting to do, for one how often do you see a rhd car let alone a 1200, two just drove my friends rhd supra and it just felt right lol pun intended. squatches
how much does an a series distridutor go for? i need to get another one, mine has shaft play bad. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
RHD conversion has never been done 1971-1977 distributor is $30 at picknpull. More at regular junk yards. The good news id that shaft bushings don't wear very often so the used ones should be fine. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
RHD conversion has never been done Not true. B) Been done. By me. has anyone on here swapped a 1200 to rhd? Yes sir. See above. i searched around and from what i found there isn't to much on it besides it being costly It is. or rarer than unicorn farts. It is. Only seen/know of two RHD Coupes in the states, and one is mine. Only know of one RHD sedan (Duncan's car), and a handful of RHD utes. ggzilla may know of more. or has anyone used rhd parts from a 180Sx to accomplish this? What parts would you use? Dash is too wide/tall/deep, Column is too long and complicated, steering rack is way too wide, wiper stuff won't even come close to fitting, etc. If you have patience, determination, and money, it's doable with all 1200 parts. FYI, the 1200 ute was built/sold in RHD form in Autralia for 25+ years, and built/sold in South Africa for 35+ years. Plenty of parts out there if you dig. Sign up on some Aussie-based forums and put up a WTB ad? I got a front cut from an '86 ute out of South Africa for all the dash/wipers/pedals, and a column/gearbox/steering linkage from a Japanese junkyard out of a '91 ute. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I figured that would flush out a response...why did you do it? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I figured that would flush out a response... ^_^ why did you do it? Just to be different. I loved my RHD Bluebird Coupe. I am really going towards a "shakotan" style with this car, so RHD made sense (to me). FWIW, also converting my 210 to RHD, but won't be using any RHD 210 bits. Because racecar. 1 Quote Link to comment
speedracer1414
well id been looking at this thing on cl for a while and i finally decided to go get it, picked it up for $400 yesterday and drove it home. its a little rough but runs and drives good, all the lights, guages, and such work and it has new recovered seats in it. squatches
time and waiting are of no importance to me, i don't expect to find all the stuff at once and have it done and i know ill have a chunk of cash in it once its done. but to me it would still be worth it, and it possibly may never happen with me. im just trying to see how many people have done it and what venues/connections they had to use. i do plan to try to pursue it tho. thanks for all the info datsunfreak and ggzilla.
