521chowda
just found a thread that tells me exactly how to do it, and i skipped some steps. god dammit. i wasnt at TDC when i pulled my dizzy....and didnt make sure the points were pointing at the #1 plug..... Quote Link to comment
yello620
So now its running? Quote Link to comment
jefe de jefes
Whuuuut? Did you mount a matchbox module to the side yourself or did you get it that way???? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Never seen that before.... but should work I guess. Quote Link to comment
ariascarlos1990
almost looks like pertronix on a matchbox dizzy. wtf.... Quote Link to comment
wayno
Is it just me, I just don't think the module should be that close to the exhaust, mine is 180 degrees the other way, facing forward. As long as you didn't turn the engine over, the distributer should have dropped in the same position. Put the crank at TDC, check the #1 cylinder cam lobes to make sure the lobes are at 10am and 2pm, put the rotor on and see where #1 is on the cap and make sure that is where the wire goes, #1. ggzilla
That's the stock Datsun electronic ignition (1st Hitachi version). It works very well. It uses this remote ignitor box, although you can use a CDI controller or GM ignitor alternatively: The only downside is that the box is not weatherproof, so it needs to go in the passenger cabin Quote Link to comment
nismo dr
so it sounds like we are missing the remote igniter, that would explain lack of spark Quote Link to comment
ariascarlos1990
That's the stock Datsun electronic ignition (1st Hitachi version). It works very well. It confused me because it has a black box on the side of it. Quote Link to comment
philcas1987
Haha fuckers!!!! It's a space invader version super dizzy. Is a Frankenstein dizzy matchbox case with the earlier ei guts. Atom figured it out. We decided it was better. Quote Link to comment
ariascarlos1990
Well.... Thats stupid! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Hmmm... that should work. The matchbox is an ignitor. Just never seen anyone create such a frankenition. Pull off the coil wire and crank the engine. Do you get spark? Quote Link to comment
philcas1987
Same dizzy is on two other cars ...His problem will be either wiring or timing. Quote Link to comment

wayno
I did mine the same way Wayno!! You did yours the same way as I did mine? My #1 wire is at 4pm standing on the drivers side looking at the distributer with the crank at TDC Quote Link to comment
philcas1987
Did you check for spark? When installing a ei dizzy it's 180 out so either switch wires around or drop the oilpump and reclock the shaft. Spark ? Quote Link to comment
