d510addict
It seems the welds came undone and now the gas pedal just rolls to once side rather than operating on that pivot point. Are there any quick fixes for this? I'd like to drive it this weekend. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
i thought there is 3 screws holding the pedal assemble? Quote Link to comment
d510addict
naw its the little floor mounted bracket that the gas pedal hinges on..........it is spot welded onto the floorpan. Quote Link to comment
d510addict
ahh i see the problem sheet metal around the bracket is tearing loose............super!! Guess I'll be cutting some of it out and welding in a patch as well as a heavy duty pivot point. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Run without it? Foot directly on the lever? Quote Link to comment
d510addict
......don't know if thats a joke or not lol.........the pedal would be completely flopping around without it. But I think I have an idea of a bracket to make that will fix the problem. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
My 710 has a flat peddle that is hinged at the floor and just leans against the actual lever. Pretty sure you could just remove it and it would be just like the 620. Quote Link to comment
d510addict
Ehh naw there is nothing else to hold the pedal up here ill try and show ya That pivot is the only place the pedal is hooked to other than the accelerator cable coming off of the carb. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Understood. The 710 is way different. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Just go get a different pedal assembly from the wrecking yard, or weld the current one up. Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Get a couple of pieces of scrap plate, a bit larger than the hole. Clamp them to the backside of the pedal, drill holes through all of it, then sandwich the firewall between the two plates. It should hold it for now. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Do what Mike said. The 521 had an adjustable throttle pedal stop on the floor, below the pedal, that stops the pedal from going down too far. If the stop is missing, or adjusted too far down, the throttle cable is too tight, and when you go WOT, the throttle pedal just puts a lot of extra stress on the pedal mount. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
JB weld the mofo!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
What kind of Datsun is that? I drive mine without the pedal. It's the bolted to the floor type like a 510. Quote Link to comment
d510addict
1971 521 I am going to attempt to make a bracket that will be much stronger and have a bearing in it for a smoother pedal feel with more durability. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I guess both types are similar, just haven't run across the pivot point breaking loose Quote Link to comment
d510addict
Hmm I am missing the pedal stopper, didnt have one on parts truck either. Also that is showing the pivot being held down with screws but it is def spot welded. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
that was just for comparison, it's not 521 but is Datsun B120 pickup Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
A pic of how Mend's was fixed....held for a very long time. I've since welded new metal in. and the floor stop for the pedal. Quote Link to comment
d510addict
I see...............It looks solid I still really want to make a stronger bracket and support it better. Not a huge fan of the original design. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The original design lasted 40 years ... that's not too bad... Quote Link to comment
d510addict
I knew someone would say that :) Quote Link to comment
