Hello again. This installment isn't necessarilly pertinent to the build of my truck, yet it is in a roundabout way. Just gonna put up some oics of fixing the green hardbody we got out of montana a couple weeks ago. Likw I said this truck is going to my dad, then I get his truck for my ka......so here are some oics from last night, putting the r and r'd head back on, and had the timing cover welded up where it rubbed through. So enjoy.

Nope not sick. All that's happening is I have been driving the green hardbody around, making sure all is well before my dad gets it. in a couple days I will begin pulling the engine trans out of my truck, painting the engine bay and core support, and installing the ka. The one going in is getting a new set of timing chain guides and an oil pump, in addition to the 240 intake manifold.

Rest easy followers every day gettin us closer to moar oics

Ok well here are some oics of the new hardbody all together. So like i said that the PO said it blew a headgasket. Well the timing chain just rubbed through the timing cover, into the ater jacket and milked the oil. I had the timing cover welded up, head checked out, new timing chain and tension rail, head gasket/misc gaskets and I also completely stripped the inside and power washed everything, making the truck as new as possible! Sometime I will re shoot the paint on it for dad, bud for now he is ready to roll, so next I can decide wether I want to yank my motor out first, or part the hardbody first. Decisions, decisions. Enjoy the oics, keep the good comments coming and thanks for the support, this is a lot of work for one guy, so thank god I got divorced or this wouldn't be done until 2019 LOL

Well loyal followers, the updates have been few, because the work has been feverish.........Last wednesday the donor truck was officially mine, so the following oics and work have been since then. The first night (wed) I spent an hour disassembling the donor...

So yea, this is about what an hour gets out of me~

So, this truck has 255K original mileage. The only work done was a timing chain kit at 195k. I was very amazed at the condition of the engine. However as I pulled the intake off, I noticed this, which could have spelled disaster....the washer for one of the wingnuts on the air cleaner made er down the tb and wedged tight into the intake port! A little flatter and a head job would have been needed.

So thursday and friday were spent tearing down the block, mic'ing the engine and determining wear. All was within factory spec, so I ordered standard main and rod bearings, piston rings and also a tension side timing chain rail, headset, new oil pump (thanks for the gift dad!) In these next few oics, I paint the engine block and valve cover body color!

I went ahead and pulled the front clip off, so i dont scratch the nice paint, and facilitate clean up

So now we get down to the nitty gritty of figureing out wtf will work with this swap, what i may need to change/buy etc. so first things first i compared trannys.

2011-07-30_16-39-54_671.jpg

So on the left is the original 77 5 speed. you can see that the hb trans is a touch shorter than the orig. However, in this situation, the tranny mount was almost an inch forward of the original. So we slotted the trans mount and the x-member to effectively slide the tranny back and forth while we get engine measurements for building mounts. I didnt get an oic of this saved, but I just used a die grinder to slot the holes.

So with that done, I used the bare shortblock, no crank, to set in the engine bay so we can get started with the mounts. Here is the oic of the engine mounted in, with the new mounts made. I simply found a 1/4 piece of flat steel, set it on the front x-member below the oil pan. This gave me the appropriate clearance and heigth for the engine/mounts

2011-07-31_00-22-40_705.jpg

I found that the hb had slightly staggered mounts, so the left side had to be shifted back. I elongated all the mount holes where the mount bolts tothe rubber part for adjustment clearance

And here is about what she will look like all done!

So a recycled oic, but the next step is to paint the engine bay. This is being worked on now, and I will have more updates later on!
