new datsun

looks like me and a buddy might be working out a deal to get into an old shop of my grandpas. no heat, insulation, needs shingles and other things. but we can do all the work and can get it cheap! 100 a month, split between 2 of us. 2 large stalls, plus a huge office, starage space. one 12 foot door, and 1 8 foot door. the 8 foot door only has a 9 foor ceiling, and the 12 foot door probaby has a 15 foot ceiling. its a weird ceiling setup. but it will work. i think i can get a drive on hoist scissor style with a hydraulic setup for next to nothing. probably under 200 bux. we are building a new shop at work, and we are getting brand new everything. so i might be abe to score here. this shop i might be getting also has a pretty decent cement floor, at a slight angle to the doors so the water will run out. also has a big air compressor. its old and hasnt been used for a long time, so idk if its any good. :) this will be used for the datsun, and his mustang. if we can pick up a few side jobs a month, wi wil do them, but just to help our projects along a little.

sucessful night! but also a shitty night.

so, i got my piston rings in, got em all gapped to specs and put em on the pistons! so, the first one i install goes badly. i get it in the spring compressor, start to tap it into cylinder, and just as i take another tap, the ring compressor took a shit and flung apart. :( fucked up the bottom oil ring. went to parts store and bought new compressor and finished the other 3. So now i have 3 installed pistons, and one broken oil ring... this sucks, cuz these rings were $80, and i coud really use 80 bux for the rest of the motor.

does anyone have a spare oil ring set (3 pieces for one piston) they would sell seperately?

pm'd "redeye" , he is making mounts for 620 with ka's. i told him i'd like to try them out for 521, cuz i think they shoud work, or at least be damn close. so, thats what im using as far as mounts, he is getting me prices on powder coating. then we will try them out! i will document and take lots of pics of the install after i recieve these, and go get the trans and all the other goodies.

well this weekend was some good progress. the 520 door hinge worked great!

pulled the l20b out today. Tossed the oil pan on the KA and set it in place just to see where it sits. i got it to go onto the factory mounts just barely, i think if i put a spacer/ angled shim under the passengers motor mount, it would work. but, i need to move the motor back some. So, diff motor mounts are in the works.

also got the bottom end on the KA together. i got new rings a week ago, and ended up wrecking one. found another one, so ita all taken car of. just need to check torque on the mains, and then i can finish up the motor.

i have the center drag link and tie rods out, will have to fab something up with those when its time. here you can also see the bung in the oil pan for the turbo return line.

nope no updates. im a bad datsun owner. havent touched it for a while. but i was working on it today, hence why im on here finally! got some stuff to do to it before its runing with the l20 again. like sort out the wiring the po has messed up, and install starter and headlights.

does anyone have pics of the wiring on the passengers inner fender? mainl the colored wires going into all ( i think 4) relays? mine are al messed up, and i think thats why stuff didnt work before

hey west coast guys, how common is it to come across cabs there? in good shape, no rust? mine is beyond my repair abilities i think. going to try, but i think next winter would be a good ime to swap cabs. and do all the paint and body work. just wondering if they ever pop up.

it lives it lives!!!!!

minor problems. alternator is sparking to the frame? never did this before. fixed a couple wires while motor was out, maybe i fucked them up. so, going to ook for pics of alternator wiring, and going to conduit al my wiring to make sure its not arching a wire.

just need to install drop bocks, rocker panells covering rust, and the hood .

then it should be good to go!
