wel today i will be doint intake and exhaust gasket. making a collector gasket, since exhaust shop just used siicone and it leaks real bad. also new thermostat housing and thermostat.

also wiring my old school sunpro look a like tach :) under the dash by the key.

will also be doing a compression test just cuz i think i might have blown the head gasket slightly.

does any one here work on, or know some one online i can talk to about a buick 231? like an 81. i need to find a decent set of pistons and a mid cam. and make sure i get the right ones this time.

  • 3 weeks later...

not going cheap on this. i will have this truck forever. and if it does go wrong. il always have a couple l's to throw back in. its real cold here in the winter, and i like to go on long random road trips in the summer. so this ka and a 5 speed will really be awesome for dependibility, reliability, and if something does go wrong out of town, it going to be easier to find parts for a 92 240sx, than a 71 datsun lol. either way its a win/win.

so far, for this swap i have...

a spare 521 tank im going to be geting boiled and the correct ring welded in for pump. and i have fuel pump

will have motor next week. and rebuild it my self to keep costs down.

resurfaced fly wheel, new clutch and pressure plate.

cooling fans

i still need. (main things)

- can/am box

- wiring harness

- transmission

- drive shaft. I havespare one to get made so the truck isnt down too long

- alum. rad and

- exhaust manifold

- nissan rebuild kit

dont have pics. the guy wanted 600 bux for this complete ka and trans . then an extra 250 for the clutck set. i told him thats crazy tak. ended up getting him to part the motor, with these prices, got the trans at... well more then what i was confortable to pay for it, but that clutch kit made up for it. this is all through texrting, but ill bring an extra 50 bux when i go and maybe ill be taking the complete motor home lol. he said it ran good when he puled it for a failed attemp at an sr swap. car had like 90k on it.

this is all about 85 miles away, and wil be getting it in a few weeks.

going saturday to get the first ka though!!! so excited!

wel i went and got the motor! truk made it the whole way no problems!i think this motor is trying to beggg me not to pull it lol. ever since i started talking about swapping, it has ran wonderful. but i know in the long run this swap will be the best thing i could have done. well along with front disc swap.

So the motor looks great, always kept inside, covered up and all passaged had paper towels in them to keep out dirt. tomorrow i am going to tear the intake and valve cover off. supposedly this motor was boosted for a little while, and has a well built head. it does have an oil return line ran to the pan, and there is no exhaust manifold. so i believ it was boosted. Not a drip of oil on it. but you can also tell they did not clean this motor just to make it look clean. over all, i am super stoked!!! may have just scored big time! but either way, i scord at $100 bux for even a rebuildable core. better if its fine as is. will update tomorow with tear down pics

ok, so i get this on the stand today to check out the condition. stripped it down to basicallly a long block. noticed one of the bolts for the injectors were missing. checked compression. 1,2,3, were all at like 95 psi, #4, had nothing. took head off, and found the bolt for the injector lodged in a valve. .

onto the bottom end. pulled out pistons, bearings looked great! and they were original too. pulled out the crank, and those bearings all looked great too!. all pistons look like they were replaced yesterday except for a little build up on the tops, but not a whole lot. not a single scratch in any of the bores either.

the game plan is to put in some ka24e pistons, nissan bearings, do the dual exhaust cam swap, and install new chain guides. also really want to get head ported and polished and a 3 angle done. also will be getting an ebay intake manifold. as the factory ones are so bulky.

well guys... i scored hugely this time! we got a new guy at the shop a couple weeks ago. well he said his rear end went out and it just stopped running. so he is going to send it to the junk yard. well he has brand new cooper stt's on it. another guy brings it to the shop tonight and starts swapping his tires for these. well i catch wind of it, go look at the truck and its not to bad lookin. rusty but not too bad. a new battery and it fired right up and runs great! rear end was low on fluid. needs a pinion bearing and seal. . called him up and told him i'd like to buy it. he sais ok. how much is it worth. i tell him 400 bux. he is like freaking out he is so happy, junk yard only offered 75 bux!. call him back after looking over the truck a little more and brought the price down to 200 bux! so all in all im out 200 bux now, but have a 4x4 with heat for the winter! very excited with the score this time!! ordering the pinion next week, it'l hold til then. oh and the new battery, was in the back seat lol

96 chevy. 350, auto, 4x4, 200k. runs good, drives good besides rear end. front end is tight, idller arm has a little play. powersteering pressure line has a small leak, radiator has a leak, but i smeared some good gm rtv on it and put some sealer in the radiator. should stop it for a while. also, have a good oil leak, its the dumb oil cooler lines. going to block em off at next oil change.

cleaned the garage tonight, have a lot of garbage and old parts in there i need to get rid of. i always seem to pile all my garbage, bad parts in the corners. well i pulled it all out today, and i have a complete car stall full of garbage! its crazy. so as soon as i figur out how am going to dispose of it, i will pull the datsun in for winter. maybe even pull the motor for a few days and fab mounts for the ka and put the L back in.

How many parts did you find that you couldn't find before when you needed them, and had to buy new ones to replace them? Or worse yet, how many parts did you find that you didn't even know you had, and now you don't need them anymore as you bought replacement ones? I hate it when I find the part after I buy a replacement from pick & pull, they are so expensive anymore.

well i hot tanked and scuffed the block with a da sander with a rubber wire wheel on it. worked super great!!! honed the cylionders, greased the deck, bores, and the front of motor. thn painted. the grease keeps from rusting and from the paint sticking. 2 coats of gloss black engine enamel. and i am done with the bock. also tanked the head, cams, pistons and rings, and all the little pieces. then i sand blasted the front timing covers, water outlet, and a few other small aluminum pieces. going to get working on the dumb factory intake soon. but i'd really like to get an aftermarket intake. due to cleaner looks, and the amount of space they take up. not for the power reasons, as i might even loose a few horses.

also, i decided against the ka24e pistons in this. i think the factory pistons will move it along quite well, and, now turbo is still open to questioning in a few years. lol

the good.

Got my rear end installed in 4 hours, changed the oil, deleted oil cooler lines and did a trans flush on the chevy. Also installed flowmaster. sounds great. While installing rear end, i tossed in some 2 inch blocks and cranked torsion bars up front.

the bad.

Opened up used rear end im about to install. Found 9 large chunks of metal, and was full of metal shavings on the magnet. Inspected gears and bearings. found a few teeth on the pinion to be chipped slightly, along with one nice ching out of one ring gear tooth. pulled out axles as the brakes and backing plates are junk. this rear end is the worst rear end they have ever sent us. they are normally high quality used parts. (oxymoron i know) backing plates are rusted through, wheel studs are missing, broken, stripped, bent. well after i pulled axles out i found the axles to have a lot of wear on the them. big groves where the bearings wear. inspected axle bearings and there pitted.

so all in all, i got a good used case, and an "alright" at the least gear set. had to use my old axles, backing plates and brakes, and had to buy new bearings and seals. but from start to finish, it took 4 hours. I am going to try to get a partial refund from them.

and sunday, i put a shift cable in a 94 dodge intrepid. talk about hell getting the retaining clip in. we attemped to do this project a few weeks ago, but right out of the box the cable was already broke. dodge must not have thinking when they designed this.
