Did, i order the wrong part?
The Z22 timing chain is shorter than the L20B?

At this point I have no idea.
So, I am asking.
Which timing chain should I be using on this LZ22 combo?

Okay, been reading again!
Before I bought the new timing chain, I wanted to make sure I had the right one.
So I went to Napa's website and searched for 2 motors.
#1 1980 Datsun 510 L20B (1954cc)
#2 1982 Datsun 720 Z22 (2287cc)

Both engines use the same timing chain, it says!
These are the part numbers that come up under both searches.

Part #: NTP 94131
Part #: ATM 23102

They are wrong. The L20B and the Z22 (and Z20) use the same block deck height so if putting an L head on a Z22 you need the L20B timing chain because the L20B cam sits higher than the Z 22 cam.

The L20B chain has 44 links between the timing marks on both sprockets. The Z22 has only 38 links.

114 links total in the chain.
I made my own timing chain for mock up.
That is how I figured it out!

The chain I bought had 102 links!
New timing chain get here Tues!
I was able to get it all lined up TDC on all the marks!
Going to strip paint off the block tomorrow.

make sure the water pump matches the fan holes. I tryed t a use a Z car water pump and I couldnt use my fanpully the fan as the holes linerd up different so I got the 510 back on there and lines up perfect with the alternator also,

get the Aisin WPN 032  made in Japan about 50-60 $  if 25$  its China!!!!!!!!

put chain on from Top down so you can get it tighter  dont use the Timming wedge on first go around that for when you take off the head in car type stuff.

I think you can just pry the stick out, and remove the brass plug you mention and switch them.  If you can't pry it from the outside, you may be able to tap them out from the bottom.

Looks like you have to drill the RH side dipstick hole.  You can see the boss right after the second N in NissaN.

Happy Birthday, BTW.

Yeah, I think your right. I will get what ever I need tomorrow!
Tonight, I party!
Thank you!

The boss is higher on the right side. If running in the L series position the block will be leaning to the right a total of about 18 degrees which helps. The oil relative to the block will be higher on the right. You might have to  get a longer stick. I would definitely fill with 4 liters or w/e full is and check what the reading says.

I would pull the original one and turn 180 so it's out of the way and then check oil when the engine is cold.

I would love to move it.
And If I am, it's the right time?
Thank you for the Happy B-day!
