Guest jaimesix
Finally got something done!! Installed Addco front sway bars. It's nice, unfortunately it's not powdered coated. Painted high gloss black, easily scratched while installing. Front Disc conversion and 620 spindle assembly. Almost there. Installed Billstein rear shocks. Their are one stiff shocks. It's a pain to compress them while installing it.:mad::mad: And I have the matching front Billstein as well. Got lucky to even find them. How do you feel the truck now with all those goodies.. Sway bar, suspension.....must feel nice. Performance report would be appreciated. Jaime._____________________________________________________ Quote Link to comment

Jaime._____________________________________________________ Haven't installed the rear sway bar and front Bilstein shocks yet. Cause of suspension travel is limited and will just blow out those shocks from bottoming out. Rear Bilstein shocks are awesome Handles pretty well for a torsion bar, hardly any body roll. But it's harsh on my internal organs, very little suspension travel upfront. It will continue this way till I do something about it. It's a fun truck, different and not many around that it's daily driven. Quote Link to comment
Guest jaimesix
If you are worried about suspension travel, best way to deal with it is by cutting the strut assemblies shorter. Then use a shorter strut insert. I am doing that with my 610. Had I gotten the springs cut, or simply getting shorter performance springs, when lowering the car, the strut would had kept very limited travel range. By using shortened struts and strut assemblies you regain your suspension travel range. Cutting the strut assembly , taking a section of the tube, and re welding, plus a threaded spring seat for adjustability will do. Bilstein is an excellent brand, German made shocks /struts . I do not know which strut assemblies would fit your Datsun, you could upgrade to another model Datsun front strut assemblies. Perhaps Datsun 210/B210. If 210/B210s work, then you could go all the way to 280ZX, because B210s/710s/610s/280ZX all have same disposition. The only difference between these Datsun front struts asse, mblies is the double walled vented 280ZX discs. But if you could not use any of the aforementioned Datsun struts, no problem, youe existing struts would be excellent with shorter strut inserts and shortened assemblies. About your sway bars, I love sway bars, make any car feel like a million bucks! About harsh suspension feeling, something that helps is getting a good seat. It does not have to be a fancy expensive one, you can reupholster your existing seat, and in the process, a good upholsterer will re-do the spring system, even improve it with todays better options. Keep us posted. Jaime.___________________________________________________ Quote Link to comment
slodat
Jaime, that is great advice! For a car :D This thread is for a 521 truck. They have no struts. pl521sss: the way I am handling the suspension travel/lowering equation on my 521 is with custom upper control arms to convert to ball joints, drop spindles and coil overs. I think you meant 521 I saw your project thread and it's a good option. There's several approach to correct this issue. One that I wanted to do is Mike's Z'd lower control arm. This way, can still use my Bilstein front shocks. Or Fineline's QA1 coilover setup and eliminate the Torsion bar all together. Quote Link to comment
slodat
Mike's Z'd LCA is a slick setup. For me, it was much simpler to buy the upper control arms. I really need the disc brake upgrade as well. I'm running the coil over setup ala Fineline as well. Quote Link to comment
Guest jaimesix
Yes, sorry guys about my ignorance about this pick up truck's suspension. Is it leaf sprung all around? Does it have a J15 engine? I love J series engines, I bought a Nissan Negine factory manual for the J series a while ago. I hope the issues with lost dampening travel can be addressed efficiently. Those trucks are cool. Jaime._____________________________________________________- Quote Link to comment
Guest jaimesix
My early X-mas shoppingI think this should do for now. This will keep me busy for the next month or 2 at least. Ignore the Strut bar on the picture, it's for the 510. OK, I see a L16 valve cover over there, that answers my J series question. It is a great looking truck, those wheels look awesome, perfect. I do not ike chrome ( I am the self proclaimed "Enemy Number One of Chrome! ENOC!!!! )...so these wheels are 100% awesome in my view. What are these??? My 710 would look very cool on these , albeit being 6 lug nuts instead of four....would have to contrive something up. pl521sss
Test engine smokey (burns oil) for turbo setup. Turbo mounted So far so good Still have the starter, Ignition, oil pan, carb and oil fittings to hook up. I say another 2 more weekends before I can start it up. Was able to track down gaskets for the housing in case I need to tear it down. Also able to contact a former Roto-Master employee that has CHRA (Center Housing and Rotating Assembly) for sale. Not sure what gasket to use for the exhaust outlet and hopefully the wastegate is still good. Quote Link to comment

pl521sss
Improved lighting LED lights on 521 Dash Idea from VGwagon It uses high intensity 1W LED. Compared with filament bulbs, it has no heat output and extremely low power consumption. It works at 12V. Compared with traditional LED bulbs, it has a 180degree of intense illumination. Removed this colored bulb cover right behind the speedo gauge. LED bulb Here's something interesting Hidden when installed It says 60MPH=1024RPM I guess it's formula for speedo calibration Quote Link to comment
pl521sss
Here's the wire to tap into for you car alarm. Red with blue stripe wire behind the dash cluster gauge wiring. For those who install their own alarm. sends output for the running lights and dash light to flash when armdisarm. Thought would be helpful Quote Link to comment

izzo
check out a site called http://www.Superbrightleds.com probably the same bulbs, might even get them cheaper? they make all kinds of LEDs for your car, tail lights, turn signals etc. and even have a power adapter for it to keep your turn signals from flashing fast due to the lower power consumed by the led's Quote Link to comment

Thanks man, hope you get your engine sorted out Was just reading your project thread cool thanks for the link... i noticed you took a pic of 2 of them, is that all i need? h2theizzo thanks for that link too There's 4 bulbs for illumination on the dash I only use 2 cause it's more than enough You could use 4 if you want 2 right behind the speedo and 1 each top corner I replaced just the 2 behind the speedo Careful though, when you have it out of the case, the gauge needles are easily bent if your not careful while working on it.
