In no order these are engines I have owned or worked on. They either went like hell, were easy to work on or were tough as nails reliable. Or all or any combination. Have worked on many others that DIDN'T OR WEREN'T.

 

Dodge 340, raced mine, EXTREMELY fast and tough.

Dodge 225 slant six, I rebuilt it with 318 2 bbl and dual exhaust, (first project car) VERY tough.

Chevy 283, helped rebuild my neighbor's when I was 15, owned a few, reliable and simple to work on.

Ford 289, friend had a 271 horse '65 mustang, fast, we rolled it in '69. :D

Z20/22/24 good parts engines for L motors, have a Z-24 in my '78.

Plymouth 2.2 reliable as hell.
