Greiggy
hey all, ive been lurking around on a few of the other forums, and now decided i might make the trek over to here. its great to see so many keen people on the early datsun trucks!! basically, im currently undertaking a full cab off chassis restoration of my 78 620 chassis, utilizing a 77 cab and 73 doors, bonnet and tub. Mods List is as follows: Engine : CA18DET + 5 speed From 1989 Nissan 180SX (s13) Turbo : Standards for the moment ( though will go to a GT2860 or GT2871 in the future ) Internals : bog stock Fuel : 1/2" lines running front to back, Carter Gold Lift Pump to feed surge tank, Bosch 044/910 to feed the fuel rail Spark : bosch HEC 716 Coilpacks (firewall mounted) with custom leads running to plugs Clutch : excedy Heavy Duty Radiator : custom Made PWR radiator ( dimensions 500x376x70mm)with SPAL ThermoFan Intercooler : Custom Made PWR ( dimensions TBA - need to measure it up :P ) Differential : standard 620 diff, locked via mig welder. Exhaust : Custom Made 3" from Turbo Back. Body : lots of shaving and smoothing. 18x8" Titan 6 spoke wheels ( only set in AUS to my knowledge) Caddy deville tail lights full interior of dynamat ( sound deadening) Bench Seat or Recaro SR3 seats ( pending on funds at the time of purchase) Aftermarket Steering Wheel ill update with more as soon as i know. here it is with its sh!tty Std J15 engine!! and us Trial Fitting the CA18DET into Place. Now for anyone who says a CA18DET doesnt fit without major modification to the engine mounts is WRONG!! above picture is just the standard CA18 motor brackets using the standard 620 rubber engine mounts!! 1 Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
engine sitting in the bare metal '77 cab. not how there is still enough clearance behind the engine for ancillaries such as heater, aircon and engine loom etc... here is the engine in question :D and my main mechanic working on it ( my younger brother) ill post up some more when i get a spare chance. 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Welcome aboard, I remember you from the nude board. Glad to see you made it over here. :D I never realized you were running an auto... Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Are you going to leave it a flat bed? I also love the huge hook in the pic :D I was using rope to pull my SR out today :D hehe The ca is my favorite engine by far! I noticed in the engine in the truck photo, that the mounts are a few inches farther forward than they are with the L20 or in your case J13 (?). When I put my ka in I kept the same front to back location as the original engine. I thought maybe you to miss the steering you moved the engine forward. Just curios :D Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
nah im running manual... the engine i bought was auto as it had a VERY easy life ... yeah the main reason for the engine to sit out of whack on the chassis mounts was to clear the steering rod. it was only out by an inch maximum. Greiggy
basically we got the engine mounted and then turned our attention to the trans tunnel... for most who dont know... a CA box will not fit a 620 floor hole without major modification !! so we basically cut the top of the tunnel out and welded it back in with a 2" rise either side. the shifter position is completely new for me as this thing was column shift before installing this motor!! here is also a mock up pic with guards on. also how the coilpacks are being mounted : ill do up a mods list shortly and edit into the first post. thanks for the replies!! oh im going a bulletside tub on it as well ;) 1 Quote Link to comment

Greiggy
yeah to my knowledge i am the owner of the only set in Australia.. basically i bought them off ebay, and had a person over there hold em for me whilst i afforded to have them shipped. turned out it took about 3 and a half months to have them delivered ( via sea Freight) and then another 3 weeks in customs ( clearance etc...) in the same shipment i had a set of deville tails sent over as well. BEEBANI
Ouch! I just shipped a 10lb box over there and it cost $180.00 u.s. on UPS. I can't imagine what ocean freight for 4 40lb wheels would've been! Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
update!! basically got another tub for my baby. this one will be the one i use to get it finished off... a hell of alot cleaner. basically has rust in the fornt of it. but that doesnt phase me as im cutting the std floor out to put a smoothie through it!! hopefully it provides me abit more inspiration to get my datto finished !! cheers. 1 Quote Link to comment
nismopu
I sent a 10-13lb box(18"x20") over to the UK for 65 bucks through USPS I think DHL, UPS, and FED-EX are all so overpriced! I also shipped a set of wheels and tires over to the east coast for 90 bucks shipped to the guys door when UPS and FED-ex wanted 200 bucks!!!! peace. Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
speaking of titans... got some tyres put on. looks pretty good sitting in that spot :P Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Looking good! Looks like all the 620's over there have the "headache" racks in the beds...do they unbolt or are they welded in? Quote Link to comment
RacnJsn95
Rad project man! From looking at the picture of the engine mounted in the engine bay on the first page, it looks like there isn't much (if any) room for a radiator, have you test fit it yet? CA18det is a rad engine. If I ever do a swap in anything other than my 4x4 thats what I'd like to use. Quote Link to comment
Greiggy
thats for the comments guys!!! yeah all of em over here have the headache bars. normally they would bolt out however on this one they have welded them in :( the Us versoin of the 620 is great in the sence that it doesnt have a sh!tty radiator support.. i had to basically remove the whole thing, and move the radiator forward to clear the bottom engine pulley!! lots of work but looks good ;) yeah the CA seems ot be a good choice... well i hope so anyways!!
