  1. yeah that owners manual was a guess. i love to stroll through the 521 service manual just to look at the pics. on that diagram it does show the ground cable going to the alt but i cant tell that it's connected to the top or bottom mount. maybe i'll stroll through the book some more and try to find an actual pic.. best book to have if you have a 521.
  2. ahh.. one of my first dreams was to have my 521 as an automatic. then the boneheads comes along and says "why the hell would you want to do that"
  3. there are 2 on this link. thread labeled 521 fuse box right next to this one. have you posted any pics of your truck? http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=6633
  4. i have 2 521's one with a electric choke bought new the kit was the k660 and it works but the electric chokes come out of tune all the time and have to be fiddled with. one of the biggest problems is the choke kicking down too soon. getting it set right even on a brand new one can be a pain and the to keep it tuned to always work right is a hassle. also the electric choke linkage to the butterfly valve will become loose and the little screw will fall out. basically as your engine wears and it's no fun retuning the choke. hell retuning a electric choke on any car isn't any fun. way too many varibles like smog to get right. now on my other 521 with a l16 i have a manual choke and the nice thing about the 521 is you can find a factory choke cable/knob set up. the 620 never had a factory manual choke set up.. the best thing about the manual choke is if your engine starts running shitty for any reason and i mean any reason you just pull the choke knob out a little bit and you dont have to sit there and try and keep your engine running with the e brake on as your pulling up to a stop. basically it saves you from needing to have 3 legs when it wont idle. once in a while i get a piece of dirt or something in the carb and i just give it a little choke stomp on the gas ans pass it through.:D mike how in the world can you not notice your choke is on with the rmp's up at a stop. hmmm i dont see anyone saying anything good about the dgav water chokes. most people convert those to electric. so i'm not saying i dont like the convenience of an electric choke but they are way more problematic. can you imagine driving a model t with the timing on the steering wheel and magneto to switch around while driving.
  5. looking at a photo in the owners manual the battery ground goes to the lifting eye next to the fuel pump.
  6. i may have an extra 521 owners manual if you dont have one. let me know.
  7. ok well i guess there is more than one. the only difference is the dual points system with the relays and the rest of the smog system. that olddatsuns link is for the j13 but the wiring is the same. here is the L wiring straight out of the owners manual.
  8. it's correct. there is only one usa 521 diagram unlike a 620 that seems to have one for every year.
  9. i would love to see a factory pic of this answer myself. iv'e always used the fuel pump stud for the lifting eye.
  10. nice to see that link was corrected finally. the wiring diagram is also in the owners manual.
  11. needs more pics and maybe a vid. vroom vroom:cool:
  12. nice. everyone loves pics. your gonna have a lot of fun with these trucks. but you already knew that.:D
  13. i hear ya. found it, now to find the follow up custom tuning artical. if anyone finds it please post it. http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/articles/tech_carb_tuning_guide.html
  14. according to this the hitachi gets better mileage and runs smoother than the weber 32/36. not trying to start the old war back up but i have heard this from other people also. http://wiki.datsun1200.com/index.php/Hitachi_DCH340 somewhere a few years ago there was a real good comprehensive write up on the hitachi vs weber but i cant find it. i'll keep looking. so both sides still say that each is smoother, more power and better mileage. personally i have webers on my l16 and l20b but i had a dch340 once that would smoke the pants off a weber and was smooth with good mileage. i wish they weren't so temperamental. i'm planning on checking out my hitachi's to see if i can get better mileage. i have a couple 328's. the 340 is the one to get. sorry i have no answers for you. i haven't ran a hitachi for many years.
  15. nice loads. any idea on the weight? cool to see a nl doing some work too.:)
  16. looks great. i love cleaning and painting things. it's gotta make ya feel good.
  17. i hate 620 gas tanks. there's like 35 hoses coming off the thing.:D
  18. these are still very common. and always will be considering how many 521's were made. what is the red color stuff inside? paint? coating? i realize some of the seals have let water in through the top and rusted the tanks out but i still see tanks with shiny new insides all the time. there is one at tacoma pull-a-part right now for $9.50 the tank sending units may be worth more than the tanks. the even harder to get part is the rubber filler tube. without any coating on the inside i'd say it's worth $40 and $50 with the sending unit. maybe $65 with the unit and correct filler tube plus shipping.
  19. looks good. how about putting that option list through your scanner for us.:D
  20. i swear oregon and cali have the best deals. i cant believe nobody bid on that 59 on ebay. must be bad timing.
  21. i've been reluctant on asking if the jets have numbers stamped/etched on them or if you have to go by site. if they are numbered i will eventually play with it but the hitachi's are supposed to get better milage from what i hear. actually i've heard both. i had a dhc-340 once that would have smoked any 32/36. anyway i just want to if my hitachi's still work decent. besides those big glass bowl windows turn me on for some reason. not the stupid little round hole ones.:D
  22. no bids! this thing has gotta be worth a couple grand easy. wtf
  23. honestly i haven't noticed a difference with milage or performance.:( but my points wont be slipping anymore every month or 2. i haven't had any problems with the system. i could use a new cap and wires. i'm going to take a look at the plugs to see how they're doing. my weber is so over jetted that my best lean is at a half a turn out. and i'm not into messing with the jets. i'll have a milage update at the end of the week and will probably mess around with throwing a hitachi back on there to see what happens for fun. after i adjusted my valves around the same time as my dizzy swap there wasn't any more room for improvement as far as it running. those valves were like night and day. i will be checking the valves again just for fun. crap i dropped my wifes archos 604 last night and broke it.
  24. this one is not mine but a similar one with tools i'd thought i'd show you just for fun. this one is not for sale or mine!! but when it was for sale it was listed for $1500. cool little thing to have.
  25. dimensions are 35x15x11 1/4 it has no tools in it so it would just be a odity for you to stash things in. the outside bottom is rusty but not rusted through. i think this was a datsun dealer tool box or something. the label inside is still decent and says datsun 510 at the top. i only wish this was for a 521 instead but oh well. the first person to give me $10 takes it. i really dont want to ship it but if you pay the shipping who knows.
