  1. i'll be over shortly to help. cant wait to see your truck. for some reason i never get tired of seeing peoples 521's. pm me with your address. anything else you want me to bring let me know.:)
  2. i'm feelin your pain bro. i too like fisch have been putting this off. i think someone said on one thread this was a 20 minute job. no offense to those of you that have done this and are trying to help but i find the write ups on this to be poor. finally thanks to this thread i now know which end of the shaft needs indexing. i think i will take a but load of pics and label everything with arrows or maybe do a video or series of videos as it's sounding like. sure glad i have a tacoma screw down the street. sounds easy looks easy to some but i like to start out a how to with step 1 insert jack under the truck and then step 2 put jack stands under the car. i'm not trying to sound like a dick or stupid but the organization on this site lately has been pissing me off. sickdrift good going and great effort. thanks for starting this thread where i can say how i feel. cause by the time i do mine and post and ask a question i'll be pointed to the search button and to the frequently asked questions sticky which wont help me at all. this reminds me of the 5 speed conversion or alt upgrade threads that are supposed to be out there to explain everything. i'll save that rant for another thread. good luck bro, cant wait for your success.:)
  3. i'd like to come and take a look at it if you don't mind.
  4. just in case you didn't see this ebay one. the package tray as i call it is the most rare non option part on a 521. you'll be hard pressed to find anyone with a spare. there hella hard to find in the junk yard and the only people who usually get rid of them are young people who dont keep the truck long enough to realize they should have kept it. the 520/320 metal tray is even harder to find i think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/datsu...mZ320307971554
  5. dude one just ended on ebay and nobody bid on it. contact the seller and ask him to relist it or just sell it to you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-GLASS-VENTILATOR-DOOR-521-P-UP-FR-10-67_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33684QQihZ017QQitemZ270282836018QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  6.:blink: retro for shor. kinda cute though. i want mine to be red.:P
  7. dudes straight up all junk yards should do this. i mean hell its free so list your inventory online. ya know what i'm saying. http://seattle.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=datsun
  8. i remember my auto shop teacher telling us about some couriers that were converted to natural gas. they burned way cleaner and had more power. the biggest problem was the storage tank issue. not a good thing to have in a crash. big boom. our pierce transit buses run on cng compressed natural gas. and the tanks are on top of the bus for impact reasons i think. i dont know of any dat conversions that have been done. would be super cool though.
  9. welcome to the forum. good project, but i see a even better one in the back ground. that's gotta be a 66 520 pickup with the 2 headlight style grill. what's up with that thing. do tell pleasel!:)
  10. damn i held out as long as i could now i cant believe i read this thread. i have to get a life.
  11. sometimes a good pipe wrench will work but you have to have some good meat to grab onto.
  12. vice grips have never worked for me but then again i never heat it up. a trick that has worked for me is pounding on a 12 point socket on the stud. you may be sacrificing a socket but in my opinion thats all a 12 point is good for. whoever came up with a 12 point should be shot. i've removed exhaust studs and a head bolt doing this. and when all else fail drill it out and tap it. no need to heli coil it unless you drill the hole too big. i've got one of those finned square manifolds but it doesn't have the pollution pipe. my l20b had that pipe and i took it off and put a plug in it.
  13. welcome, 521's rule!! nice truck have you had it long? how much did you pay? i like your gas pedal rubber pad. 521's never came with gas pedal rubber pads. if you plan on keeping your stock fuse box i may have a top for it you can have.:) cool dash cover also. all 4 hub caps is a plus and it looks like you have a fm radio without cutting up the dash. looks like you may need some heater parts like the duct boot and valve knob. are you sure it's your carb giving you grief? remove your distributor cap and rotate your engine to make sure the magnets aren't rubbing on the hub. you should see a air gap on all four sides. if they rub your engine will backfire and run like shit. although it's not a common problem it did happen to me. also pull the spark plugs and check them. they should be gaped at .040-.044 if that is a electronic distributor. looks like it is. hmm it looks like i see a ballast resister. if it's still hooked up and not bypassed then your not getting the full benefits of the electronic distributor. if the ballast is still hooked up run your spark plug gaps at .032 i see your running 2 fuel filters. i too have a club on mine. tell us your story.
  14. the dash isn't even cracked. look at that floor board! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Datsun-Bullet-side-620-Pickup-1600_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6188QQihZ015QQitemZ250304257330QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  15. carb a is a dch328 and carb b is a dch340. as stated these model numbers will be printed not stamped on the right side of the float bowl. if there is no printing then they may be rebuilt. the printing comes off easy.
  16. just swap the fuel pump over. no need to rebuild it they're bullet proof and last forever. no adjustments or extra parts needed. oh make sure to use the spacer thats with it.
  17. gremlens fucking with me you know your not supposed to feed those little furry things after midnight right?
  18. no shit and at least tell what engine it has. looks like a giant comb going down the street.
  19. i dont think it's the fuel pump. it's tour carb or filter.
  20. did you actually order them or just get a quote. these sites like nissanparts.cc will take orders on stuff that ia nla. then it takes a couple weeks to find out they cant get them. i seriously doubt they can get either of those. only way to tell without ordering is to call the dealer with the part numbers. nissan parts does not use the red x on their site to list something that is nla. everything in the 521 parts catalog is still listed on nissanparts.cc and looking at the page format they look to be affiliated. i order stuff all the time just to find out they ant get it. i have a order in right now and damn they are taking long.
  21. being that it was 95 percent complete as long as you have a piece to copy from anything can be remade. i'm guessing the rubber would be hardest to find, but you could use generic stuff if you didn't want to spring for having everything remade. i'm sure that has to be a common engine shared with other datsuns. i mean the only things as far as the engine you'd have a hard time finding would be the head gasket and bearings. all other gaskets could be cut from a roll. i sometimes cut my own gaskets cause the ones in the store are too damn thin. i wonder what the 5 percent is thats missing.
  22. the bottom of it should be cardboard brown so it has been painted. i've tried painting these before and they dont turn out well. this may be the best looking one i've seen though.
  23. almost nobody has the metal one. but if anyone wants to know they both go for around 25-35 in decent condition. jukeism's is better than average shape although it does look like everything but the front lip has been primered. so actually it's worth $5- but i wouldn't pay $100 unlses my 521 was factory minty. biggest problem with him is he's in florida. last 521 package tray i sold this year on ebay went for $30 and it wasn't that pretty. last 520 metal package tray i bought from a forum member on ebay went for like $25 last year. so if anyone buys it tell your friends and kids to keep their damn feet off of it.
  24. that's hella cool to be able to find a collectable piece of datsun history like that. i've never even heard of it. i wonder how many banks were made or if there was any other datman stuff or if any other dealers had special stuff made. i collect all type of older antique stuff. this will now be on my list to find.:) does it have a plug on the bottom or back?
  25. here are 2 pics of the beams i use. the car port one is a 4x10 and the garage is a 4x12 or actually its 2 2x12's put together. i've never used an engine hoist so if you have a stout beam in your garage or car port then you can buy a come-along. they come in cable style or the more expensive. all you have to do is wrap some chain or even 1/4 inch nylon rope wrapped around around the beam 5 times. nothing special needed. one advantage of using the beam come-along method is you dont have to take apart a big hoist and find space to store it one disadvantage is you cant pull a engine out of the junk yard with this method. if it's your dad's garage and he's game, dont be afraid to try it. most of the young people may tell you not to try this because they haven't done it before but let me tell you the old timers know how to do shit. no offense peeps those are just the facts. also they dont build houses and garages like they used to so if it's a newer pre-fab style home you'll want to look carefully at your beams. look at this car port. 3 years ago i pulled a 3.8 liter ford taurus engine with the tranny and i lifted the whole damn front of the car with it. most recently i pulled out a honda cb650 motorcycle out of the back of my 521. that was fun just lifted it with some rope and pulled my truck forward and then set the bike down. 3 months ago i pulled my l16 with trans and installed anther one. i find it easier to pull both engine and trans at the same time. i do all my pulling outside under the car port now.
