NEEDED: Datsun 521 headlight switch Pretty Please!
yenpit commented on Angela's advert in Datsun Parts
I bought the NOS Thailand headlight switch, with more wires than USA spec (sorry don't have it right here) , which has the optional fog light position (twist the knob/shaft), my tech opened it up, studied it & decided it could not be retrofitted to a USA spec truck WITHOUT the OEM optional fog lamp wiring in place. Angela, does your existing 6 wire switch have the "twist" function for the fog lamps? TJ Denver CO -
Has anyone blocked off the coolant holes going to Intake Manifold?
yenpit replied to thatseemslegit's topic in 510/1600
Yes, with aftermarket intake without the coolant passage, plug the holes! Just as Hainz says, tap threads & install pipe plugs with some sealant. And as datzenmike says, make sure both the intake & exhaust manifold flanges are the same thickness, thus use normal washers. If different thickness, no worries, just find a washer that makes up that difference & cut to fit. You might want to weld & grind to suit, cuz hard to hold half a washer in place by hand! If you have the factory THICK washers, you can grind thinner in that area to create a "step" so it seats on both flanges evenly. -
..............we would like to see that custom Ninja vinyl work! 😁

Somebody pointed out a NEW method of posting pics! In a "reply" window like this, look down in the lower left corner of the window, says "drag files here to attach or choose files", I use the "choose files" link, it goes to your PC/phone "photo's" file, choose pic & post it! I just grabbed a favorite pic of mine.............

I just learned TODAY about the new pic posting feature here! Pull up a "reply" window. Look down at lower left, says "drag files here to attach, or choose files" link. I use "choose files" link, goes to your pics file on your computer/phone, choose pic! This "drag files her......." does NOT appear until you open your own "reply" window. Good luck!

Timing is NOT good right now, cuz NOT available, but Hung Vu at Vintage Dashes out there in CA somewhere is CONSIDERING making the 620 dash pad! He would be likely 8-12 months out, but I have been telling him he should consider making it! Just so people are prepared, the larger Z car dash pads are like $850, the simpler 510 dash pads are like $500, so I would expect the 620 pad to be on the higher side. The BIG question is are 620 people willing to pay that kind of mulla? PS I have a 620 parts truck, complete dash, but the dash pad is TOAST!

PS it is TWO horns...one Hi one Low tone, one drivers side, one passenger side. You need to install one on the passenger side, THEN you can install one on the drivers side, cuz they piggy back/daisy chain!

Passenger side............... For those attempting to post multiple pics, this new system only allows up to a certain MB pic, click OUT of the thread, then back in & post another pic etc...........

This is where that lamp was installed on my 1969 510. It had 2 crude self tapping holes & a crude homemade wire coming off fuse box, so somebody simply installed it....... Wow! This new pic posting is GREAT!!! 😎

As far as I know, all 510 horns mounted at the lower front of each side of the inner fender wells. There should be two captive nuts per side there, for the OEM horn bracket. PM me your email or text, I can send pics of my 69! TJ Denver CO

I don't think any of the USA spec 510's had the engine compartment light, unless perhaps it was offered as a dealer option. However, I too have a 1969 510 with one in the engine compartment, but it also has a map light on the passenger inner A pillar, so I always assumed somebody installed the engine compartment light! All of the Z cars came with the lights. Is your lamp kinda oval shaped with a twist off end that holds the lamp & plastic domed lens? If so, that is the same as the Z car. Sorry, I don't host & post pics like Ratsun requires!

I don't host & post pics, but if you would like to see pics of the headlight/fog lamp switch, PM me with email or text! FYI all of the wires ON the switch are black......not color coded. TJ

Hainz..........really?? SAE & metric?? Shows ya how much work I've done on MY 72 521!! 😝 But, I did just move it over to my shop, from work, so hopefully get started this weekend on some stuff.............especially cuz my roommate just called to say she is working all weekend!! 😎 Welcome nath96! That will be a cool ride over in the UK! Also curious.........where are you importing it from? TJ

The NOS eBay USA Thailand sourced 521 headlight switches are for the factory fog lamps! The knob/shaft TWISTS to turn on the fog lamps, but only in the running lights & headlights positions, not in the OFF position. You might have been the one to tell me that!!?? I bought one, likely won't use it........PM if interested! TJ

Check the idler kit as soon as you get it! I've heard that some of the aftermarket idler assemblies that were available, were slightly different casting & the bushing kits don't fit.

I ALWAYS replace both turn signal & hazard flasher units with heavy duty electronic flasher units........I use Novita #EL12 units, available at AutoZone etc. The turn signal & hazard wiring runs THRU the turn signal switch on the steering column. We find that the electrical contacts can easily be dirty etc with old congealed grease OR worn out/damaged, which could cause electrical issues like this. We soak the electrical part of the turn signal switch in white vinegar for a day or two, then clean well, then check that the contacts are clean, not corroded or worn/damaged. If good, use some dielectric grease on the contacts, lube up the moving parts & re-install! Other issues are bad grounds etc. Hope that helps!
