    66' 520 build

Datsunrides, Very nice. Z chopper, Were trim rings a factory option?
  2. Welcome. What part of Texas are you in? Keith
  3. The threaded hole in my 1966 520, J13 block is 1/4"x18 fine thread. I just measured 25251-30100 to be 3/8"x18 fine thread. Therefore, the threaded block hole is a smaller diameter than the suggested nut. Has anyone else found an nut (locking collar) that fits the J13 engine? Thanks, Keith
  4. I have a set of new window sweeps, aftermarket windhsield, and used/ universal door seals for sale. PM me your email address and I will email photos. Keith

    New startup problem J13

Now to the big Question: Where in North Texas did you move? Keith
  6. spottedog, How do you know it was originally red? keith
  7. I have not had any success determining the original color (red or black) of the positive cable for a 1966 Datsun 520. Does anyone have a color photo (or brochure) of the 520 engine compartment which would show the original cable color? Thanks, Keith
  8. Does anyone know the tread size of the 25251-30100 NUT? This part number is for the post-1967 thermal transmitter engine block holes. I need to determine if it will fit the pre-1968 Datsun 520/J13 block. I you have an extra one to sell/trade, I would be interested Thanks, Keith
  9. In addition to the alternator wiring connector, there are two black wires exiting the wiring harness, the shorter one appears to be connected to the “E” terminal of the alternator. Where does the other, longer wire connect? In addition to the battery cable, from the positive terminal to the starter, the 521 wiring diagram shows a positive (red) cable to “resister”, then to fuse box. On the 520, Is there a wire directly from the battery terminal to the positive terminal of the alternator, or Is there a wire directly from the battery terminal to the fuse box? Finally, what gauge is this wire? Thanks, Keith
  10. For my 1966 520, I cut a template our of corrugated cardboard and used that to cut the 1/4" perforated foam. (Do not use 1/8" perforated foam, it is too thin!) Keith
  11. After months of searching, I never found an original used one or an aftermarket alternative. So, I had one fabricated: https://flic.kr/p/b4oAxK Keith
  12. whatwouldjessedo, great suggestion. After my J13 was torn down I was able to determine bearing, piston & ring, rocker arm, valve spring replacement requirements. It took me about 4 weeks to get all the parts. I ended up ordering a few extra J13 parts, since I was concerned that the reassembly would cause damage to old, brittle parts. Keith

    J13 Pistons

J13 (standard) Bore 2.874 Stroke 3.0551 J15 (standard) Bore 3.0710 Stroke 3.0550 The J15 has larger valves and carburetor to accommodate the larger combustion chamber. This ad shows a J13 block: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/pts/4452215967.html Keith
  14. We Texans are hoping the Toyota USA Automobile Museum (http://www.toyotausamuseum.com/) will be part of the move. The Lone Star State could use more exposure of old school Non-USA manufactured vehicles.
  15. What part is mounted in this hole? https://www.flickr.com/photos/53116286@N07/14025077485/ Thanks, Keith
  16. Does anyone have a photo of the original battery top frame, tray, and fastening rods? I have what appears to be an original plastic tray that is the correct size for a Group 24 battery. Thanks, Keith
  17. A local rebuilder generally can rebuild your unit. (It is better to have it rebuilt while it is still operable, that way the rebuilder can see what parts are working and what parts need replacement.) Buying a used starter only guarantees you have a core. There is no assurance the used unit is any better than the one you already own. Keith

    Splash guards

I purchased both 12" x36" pieces of 1/16" and 1/18" rubber sheet from an industrial supply store. I have not layed out the template to determine which thickness to use. I'll post here when I have the rubber cut. BTW, I also found the brass split brads and matching washers at a local fastener supply company. They are very close to the original one. Keith
  19. Good update. Do you have a photo of the current muffler, I wanted to see if it is a 5" round unit with offset 1.75" inlet & outlet. Thanks, Keith

    Nice 63 on CL

I have seen the truck. It was repainted and "refurbished" by a local Nissan dealer years ago. I spoke with the PO who purchased the vehicle from the dealer, did some minor repairs, and put it up for sale at a local swap meet. Based on the current asking price, there is should be a lot of room for negotiation. Keith
  21. Very nice. Please tell us more about the carpet you installed? Was it a kit or did you piece the sections together from flat material? Keith
