earlyvws
So I started this car May of 2018, and was working on it till June 2019. I have since then moved from CA to TX. I'm now ready to get back to finishing this Z. I'm in the middle of wiring this cal and have run into a problem with the turn signals. I have every wire counted for except 2 wires coming from the dash harness. One is black and has a male spade and the other is a red (18 gauge I think) with a female connector. The red is a constant 12V and seems to power several fuses on the fuse block. The black does not seem to be a ground wire but it tones out to another black wire on the drivers side and that wire is also black with a female bullet connector. I have eliminated a few of the original items and I have checked a few different wiring diagrams but I cannot figure out where these go. As far as the turn signal switch is concerned I have headlights, tail lights, hazards, but no turn. If u look at the assembly it is 2 halves and the side with the headlight switch has power and none of the wires on the turn signal side has power. I can't help but think the red wire needs to power the turn signal side some how but there is no where to connect it. In these pics I am showing the original harness as I took it out. Then installed after I did a few mods to it and rewrapped it. IMG_0976 by Joe Hill, on Flickr Please HELP. I need to know where these go. I should mention that despite my modifications all wires are still factory and in most cases I left everything I did not use just taped away so I can not get confused. grannyknot
@earlyvws, nice work on the Z! Powder coat primmer? I'm going have to check that out, the red and black wires up on the steering column, I'm pretty sure those are there for the ignition key buzzer, I believe the wires were installed in the wire harness even before the key/ignition switch had the key sensor. Usually they were disconnected decades ago to silence the buzzer. If there is no power on the signal side then you need to trace those red wires back and find the break in the line or blown fuse or maybe blown signal flasher. The original signal flasher was a mechanical unit so you would want to replace that anyway with a modern electronic flasher. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
No Ray not done yet. Yes lets move this to projects! Thanks granny knot. I actually finally figured everything out. I don't have the OG ignition anymore so I did not have anything to look at. I finally found the FSM. Not sure why I did not have it before. Im using the DZ push button start. And for some reason it is not sending out any 12V on the green/ white wire and Black/ white wire. I figured out a work around and now my turn signals work. I didn't take a lot of photos. I was building this Z a 510 for a buddy that has all the same amount of work as this z. I used the exact same process for his car. and packing all my shit to move to Texas. So I will start taking new photos and update progress. Right now I think I finally have all the body electrical working. Cant test the micro squirt, EDIS yet. 1 Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
The tires in the last photo were what came on the wheels when I bought them. They were a little small. I have since put new larger tires on. 1 Quote Link to comment

earlyvws
Wow that throttle piece is nice. I almost had to make one. Things weren't working out with the OG one at first. Then I made a bracket that made it work. Whats the other end look like? 1 Quote Link to comment
grannyknot
Damn! that's some show quality work you've done there. Are you a pro or just doing it for fun? Love the valve cover. Quote Link to comment

So its not metal on paint. It also has 8MM bronze oil bushings pressed in so it will self lube for a 100 years. Quote Link to comment
lbpd716
I'm planning on starting my 71 soon. Did you do the plating yourself or might I ask how or where I can send my stuff to get results like that? Looks great! Quote Link to comment
yenpit
Here in Colorado, we have Denver Metal Finishing. In Michigan, we had Allegan Metal Finishing. Google locally "metal finishing or plating", but I have heard that CA does not offer this kind of plating cuz of EPA.............?? I have seen home brew yellow zinc & prefer the professional outcome 🙂 Biggest problem is that they literally toss ALL of the hardware & parts into the plating tanks, so YOU need to know where everything goes once plated. If you have spare hardware from other Datsun projects or parts cars, do it ALL! We have boxes done & always have extra hardware to use later! If you are gonna do it, you must use a LESS aggressive media like glassbead......NOT an aggressive media like aluminum oxide etc! Wow earlyvws, your project is killer!
