dimlight65
So, the combination speedo/tach has this little tiny LCD screen which may or may not be an odometer. On the off chance that it is not, I bought a 2" digital speedo (which definitely has an odometer) and made a plate to mount it where the fuse box used to live. I also bought some 1/4-20 nutsert/rivnut things... so I could put them here... and mount a coolant expansion tank. Up next: Airflow Management. 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
As mentioned when I got this radiator, it is 3" shorter than the stock unit. This left a 3" gap at the bottom. So I lifted this shield up... and zip-tied it to the lower radiator bracket. Then I made a duct/shield to route the hot air from the oil cooler away from the radiator. We installed the upper radiator hose (and have an idea how we're going to do the lower), but took no pictures. I did take pictures of the three NEW kittens that showed up today though! They are impossibly cute. I can hardly stand it! 2 Quote Link to comment

It's my van! 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
While I have never actually needed one, I want an under-hood starter bump switch. So, I bought this... Made this... And installed them here... PULL THE LEVER, KRUNK! Then I got serious about stringing wires... ok, I routed a few wires to, more or less, their final locations. But I took no pictures of that. dimlight65
Well, the mangy ass water pump finally got to me... Ooooooooooooooo! Pretty! And in place... And with the alternator and belt back on... Now we just need to decide between a "Ribbed for Her Pleasure" lower radiator hose (easier, but ugly), or a molded 90° hose (gotta do research to find one, but much prettier). Lazy Tim is "OK with" ribbed, aesthetic Tim wants John to find him the prettier hose! 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Ok, time for Tim to get "cancelled." Does that pulley look like it has Down's Syndrome to anyone else? Sorry, I've resigned myself to the whole "Going to Hell" thing a long time ago. Quote Link to comment
Duncan
That pulley is very strange. Is it plastic? It looks like it in the photo. (To me, anyway) 1 Quote Link to comment

It does have a fresh coat of paint on it because the bolt on bit in the center (that we are not using) was bare. Perhaps my paint job makes it looks plastic? 1 Quote Link to comment

Also, this shot is making me consider* aluminum radiator hoses... because racecar. *And by "consider," of course I mean... well, the parts are on their way. dimlight65
We zip-tie loomed the rear... um, loom of the wiring harness... Then routed it under the van... John secured it to the rear brake line but we didn't take pictures. Then we.. ok, John dropped the fuel tank so we could finger out how to backdate it to a carburetor fuel pump and mount the fuel level sender. We removed and disassembled the nearly brand new fuel pump unit... Discombobulated the pressure regulator (round stainless thing on the bottom of the next picture)... And then soldered in a pickup tube... Finally, we setup the length and stroke of the sending unit so we can mount it in the tank... The sender will go in the small hole while the pickup tube will be in the larger one... And yes, I know that's the same picture as above. I forgot to take any others of the tank out of the van. dimlight65
So here's the Hugh Jass® 35 gallon fuel tank... I installed the fuel level sender (after tearing the gasket and making a new one, Grr!). You will notice that I remembered to add a ground wire... And I installed the modified pickup assembly... Which makes the top of the tank look like this... Then I was looking at other things I could do. I decided the bare metal and rusty bolt looked like ass, so I risked the Wrath of John and hit our recently fabricated dipstick bracket with some paint. Then, since I had success with the spray, I decided to scrape, vacuum, and Zero-Rust the battery tray. By that point, I was hot and sweaty enough to call it a day and go home. 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Most of the bits arrived to make the aluminum radiator hoses... After an initial test fit, I trimmed one leg of the 90° silicone coupler... And stuck it on the thermostat neck... The 45° silicone coupler got stuck on the radiator... And the straight section of aluminum pipe went twixt the two... John put clamps on them, but we took no pictures of that. Oops. The aluminum 90° bend goes something like this... And will get attached with the two straight pieces of silicone arriving tomorrow. After grokking that for a while, I asked what was stopping us from making the holes for the filler thingies in the scuttle. Nothing, apparently... I am really chuffed with how those turned out! 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
One thing I noticed is the straight piece has no lip or anything like the 90° does.... Not sure if that's important or not... 1 Quote Link to comment

dimlight65
More silicone hose arrived today... I trimmed one of them... Shoved the aluminum 90° in it and it on the water pump... Trimmed the other one to go between the elbow and radiator... Then hose clamped them all down... And from the other side... I also got some small silicone hose to link the radiator to the surge tank... And the surge tank overflow... I'm still not 100% sure where I'm going to route that though. And, here's a shot of the filler/bleeder thingies with the hood closed... And that's totally not my finger in the shot. I think it's the Solway Firth Spaceman. Quote Link to comment
