It's the way I always sing "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano.

At the shop, when Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" arrived at that lyric, we substituted "Just another Pinche Cabron"

It fits so nice, syllable-wise..

New wiper motor!

And the linkage all hooked up...

20230816_151724.thumb.jpg.9512fc99ef426e512b9c013a36bb289f.jpg

And an YouTube vidja of it in action...

The noise is the radiator fan, not the wipers.  I'm quite pleased with myself for making this "Chicken Bones and Voodoo" work finally.

I decided to add a little storage to the side of the driver's seat base.  These bolts might be a bit overkill...

But they are interconnected with a little bracket.  Holes in the seat base...

And, oh!  Would you look at that.  A Taurus M85, .38spl revolver fits in there just perfectly with two speed loaders.  Who knew?

Of course, I will only use it for CDs and DVDs.

I finalized the ram-air vent thing today.  I first used some super glue to secure the two end pieces to the hose and then used a couple hose clamps to secure the end to the radiator panel...

I then did some rain mitigation by zip-tying it to the brake master...

I'd go ahead and install the cold air pipe from the carb to the air filter.

When we got the single rear door, I bought a limiter/holder-opener bracket thingy.  I finally installed it today.

I made a new heat shield for my feet.  It used to attach to the doghouse, but that made removing and installing said doghouse a PITA.

This one attaches to the floor...

But they would have been just as smooshed against the doghouse.

And John really came through with the repairs to the dash face and wrinkle paint!

That's where someone ham-fisted several holes to install a tach...

I just noticed the Edelbrock AVS carb.  I have spoken with two people who own them, and they both say they are the second coming.

Have the driven the Dajiban much with it yet?  Curious to hear your guys take on it.  Curious about what cfm you used.  My friend has the 500sfm one on a 300-ish horse Sunbeam Tiger, and he says it's plenty of carb up to around 400-ish horsepower if I recall correctly..

Although my Forty Ford runs great, I think that carb would run as good or better, and probably get better mileage..

We have yet to fire it up with the carb.

As for sizing, John gave me a formula for fingering out CFM.  My calculations said... well, here's the spreadsheet:

CFM Calculator
Displacement 318 Displacement 318
Max RPM 5500 Carb CFM 500
CFM Needed 506 Max RPM 5434

Based on that, I went with 500 CFM in an effort to maximize torque.  I don't tend to rev V8s to the moon anyway.

And another spreadsheet shows that 5500 rpm with my transmission, rear gears, and tire size, would be 146 MPH!

Yes, I know a 5.2 Magnum 318 probably won't push this brick through the air that fast.  I'm not delusional... well, not that delusional.

Yesterday, I wanted to see if the fuel pump was sending fuel (it was) so I removed the brand new hose from the carb...

20230820_112427.thumb.jpg.a5797d0723223ac4736d6712554b511d.jpg

it was already cracking around the hose clamps, and very soft and squishy...

20230820_112441.thumb.jpg.302ff895866703dbcd7e20e87f9d7cc6.jpg

I'm afeared it might not be fuel rated after all.  This isn't a big deal here at the front (I can get to these), but the rear (on top of the tank) is going to be a faff to replace.

So, in order to calm my nerves after this revelation, I decided to do an "Art Project" and marked off the area of the deck where the door holder-opener swings...

20230820_121710.thumb.jpg.993453737b79051827a86c4960a453e3.jpg

And before you ask why we put it on top of the shelf and not below, it's the only place where the other end aligns with metal on the door.

Below the shelf is in that big square hole and on the upper shelf is in the middle of the window...

The ignition switch sat too deep in the hole so we had an idea.  If we took some big nuts...

20230826_075136.thumb.jpg.66607b52750a8f0cad8ef2d64078231d.jpg

and painted a washer black...

20230826_075230.thumb.jpg.d3f8c163ab0adf7366c645ef04c14ef5.jpg

we could set the switch to whatever depth we wanted and fill the hole...

Well, the nuts were the wrong pitch.  I figured, "This thing is brass, I'll just force it on and 're-tap' the switch to these nuts.  Unfortunately, when the base is held rigid and the stem is twisted...

20230826_075145.thumb.jpg.4447d72baccfca5231015f3ab905175e.jpg

it twists in two and gets beat with a hammer.  I bought a new switch (which came with another mounting nut, of course) and we got it installed. It was a tad off center so we tried to twist the dash metal to get it lined up.  Yeah, we did break that switch in half as well.  How did you guess?  John took off in the Smart to get another new switch (because he may or may not have been the one to lean on it causing it to snap.  I'm not saying.)

With a third switch in hand, we wired it up and installed it.

20230826_075217.thumb.jpg.e88ae3d80c0e0f4c3a69acfea84f031c.jpg

It still sits a little deep, but it's better than before.

I may go in, loosen the beauty nut a little, and move the black washer closer to the face... we'll see.  We also grounded the wire on the gauges that makes the fuel level read correctly, but that wasn't terribly photogenic... nor was setting the tach parameters... which we also did.

One other thing we did Saturday was to replace the soft, squishy, and cracking fuel line at the carb end of the system...

We partially dropped the fuel tank... again... so we could replace the fuel lines at the tank and pump.  They were dissolving in a pretty terrifying manner.  I hope John posts a negative-star review of this crap hose on Amazon so no one burns their car to the ground trying to use it!  I fixed a broken zorst hanger and installed a few trim pieces too.  Then we "set the timing" and installed the spark plug wires.  We took no pictures, but if you've seen one distributor, you've... seen a distributor.  I don't know.  Whatever.  We made a half-assed attempt to start it, but had let the battery run down to about 10.5 volts.  It's on the trickle charger now and we'll try in earnest to fire it up Saturday.

Yup.

And unfortunately mine is not the only bad review that mentions swelling, splitting, and dissolving when it comes in contact with gasoline.

I have no clue how this absolute dogshit has so many positive reviews...

Being who I am, I just couldn't trust the trickle charger to sit unattended for another two days, so I swung by the shop after work.  While I was there, I took a few pictures for y'all.
