datzenmike
Slow down and punctuate your sentences. Post pictures of it from passenger side rear. This is easier than me writing 4 pages of what to look for. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/54932-photobucket-ratsun/ 1 Quote Link to comment
Cheetahking
Slow down and punctuate your sentences. This should be flashing on the screen for most people's posts - a clear sentence really helps! Mike will get you the info once you post a picture - he's a wealth of information.... 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Does anybody no how to change input shaft bearing on F4W71B transmisson So it was a 4 speed after all? A four speed with a sloppy shifter. Maybe it would be better to describe what your problem is with it. If someone is telling you this they could be wrong. Lots of things make noise. If lots of growling in every gear but quieter in 4th, probably not the input but the counter shaft bearing. You'll see when the front case is taken off. Quote Link to comment
77 620 bulletside
If i take the plate off the front and the snap ring off can i pull the input shaft and bearing out or do i have to do something else ? Im positive its the imput shaft bearing is gone Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Once the cover plate is off and the snap ring and shims the case bolts can be removed and the front case half of the transmission pulled forward and off. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/8809-how-to-remove-tranny-front-case/ Quote Link to comment

77 620 bulletside
Question to all is the tail shaft housing 4/5. Sp interchangeable. There both long Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I'm going to say... no. At least the 4 speed tail will not fit the 5 speed. The 5 speed's is deeper to make room for the 5th overdrive gear. The 5 speed tail ...... (might) eh :hmm: fit a 4 speed but you may have to swap the 4 speed striking rod into it as well. 77 620 bulletside
Ok tranny apart 5sp,there is to much slop in shifter wont go into 1st or 2nd tranny. with case off works all gears perfect, whats bad in tail shaft case Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well If severely sloppy shift bushings, specially if they are missing, it may not go over into the 1/2 gate. There are two top bushings, one each side and on the bottom of the shifter is a plastic 'cup'. What about the other gears? go into them? It's hard to fit the tail to the main body and get the 'striking rod' engaged in the shift gates on the ends of the shift rods. Quote Link to comment
77 620 bulletside
Yes all plastic bushings R good Is there something else that wouldn't let it line up! All other gears work fine, Its in the shifter section somewhere tail shaft.Something got to be wornout or loose Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The shift lever rotates the striking rod side to side through the neutral gate and moves it forward and back through the selected shift gate. Does it move far enough over to the left, towards you, to be in the 1/2 shift gate??? This rotates the striping rod selector over to the right in the transmission to select 1st and 2nd shift rod. With the tail off does the shift rod actually move the 1st/2nd shift fork??? The shift rod may move, but if the roll pin is sheared in the fork the rod will just slide through it and it won't go into either gear. Quote Link to comment
77 620 bulletside
Need to see photo of striking rod up close mine looks good but want to compare Quote Link to comment
