mbunzel
hey guys ive been looking for a set of 720 4x4 leaf springs but have had no luck. I saw summit racing has belltech lowering leaf springs for the hardbody does anybody have experience with this or any insight, mainly do they fit and and how do they compare drop wise to the 720 leafs? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bel-5974/overview/year/1985/make/nissan/model/720 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
$140 per side? For less, take yours to a spring shop and have some arch taken out of them. 620/720 and D-21s have the same length of springs at 1,200mm. The stock 620 spring constant is just over 300lb/in the 720 4x4s are 442lb/in. 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
D21 springs are the same length. so you can bolt them into the frame of the truck. issue is, the axle centering pin is 3/4in forward from the stock position of a 620/720. so the axle will be moved forward. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good info! What about removing the top D-21 leaf and substituting a 620/720 one? 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
guess you could.. with all the work, its easier to just make a small lowering block with an offset locating pin. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
There has to be a 4X4 somewhere up there, you can likely get a set for under a $100.00, that's a lot of money for a set of leafs. 1 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Will those work with the 521 they should right? I figure with new bushings and 1 leaf instead of multiple looks better. The 4x4 springs are multiple correct. If I don't do 4 link then I like this route better. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If swapping from multiple to single leaf you will seriously soften the spring rate. The lateral support would be the worst thing. The axle will shift sideways and the single leaf curl. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Hey there MrBigTanker, do you have a single driveline, or a two piece driveline? Will those work with the 521 they should right? mbunzel
I have found the 720 4x4s at pick in pull before but the last time i was there they had the truck sitting on the leafs so there was no way i was getting them off. 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
does that yard not have a wheeled cherry picker in the yard? the 720 i got mine from was sitting on the leafs. used the cherry picker from the yard to lift it and set it back down.. ask em to pick it up for you. youre the one paying for them. its the least they could do to make a few bucks. 3 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Are yards in Portland and Vancouver have at least two Gantry cranes with giant wheels, there has to be some way to lift an engine out in all the u-pull-it yards. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Some other company is selling lowering springs for $178.49 shipped. No idea on fit or quality... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Street-Edge-83-97-Nissan-720-D21-Hardbody-3-Lowering-Leaf-Spring-Set-/281516611995?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A720&hash=item418bb2999b&vxp=mtr 1 Quote Link to comment
olderdat620
I used the D21 leafs on my 620 but I drilled out holes on the mounting pads 3/4 inch back dropped right in 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
drilling holes in treated spring steel kind scares me.. the stock holes are cut before the spring is treated, so drilling afterward would cause it to be a point to crack.. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
I think he drilled the axle perch, drilling the leafs is likely a bad idea, and you likely would go threw several drill bits trying also. drilling holes in treated spring steel kind scares me.. the stock holes are cut before the spring is treated, so drilling afterward would cause it to be a point to crack.. 2 Quote Link to comment

Looks like good stuff, they have spindles for the front for $200 as well. I might have to get those leaf springs and spindles! Unfortunately, there are literally NO 720's in the junkyards near me, they were all crushed a long time ago! So no 4x4 springs for me! Seems like there is nothing earlier than the 90's. The "cash for clunkers" is to blame for that, causing a huge increase in inventory all of a sudden. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Ok, I don't want to rain on your parade, you ever heard of axle wrap? Do not remove leafs, I don't care if it looks better, with the power you engine puts out, you need for that rearend to stay in the position it's supposed to be in, not twisting everytime you shift a gear, if it twists enough, it can start pulling the yoke out of the back of the transmission, if your doing 70/80mph and slamming gears...... :( I made a aluminum 1 piece.. 4 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
You can also drive your truck or car to your local spring shop and tell the how you want the back to sit and they can do it. This is more expensive than taking them just your springs but you will end up with a truck or car that does not lean. Quote Link to comment

I assume yes because guys swap out the 720 4x4.But this would be cleaner and less blocks for desired drop if i don't 4 link the rear end. 1 Quote Link to comment
mbunzel
I can only make it to the yards on the weekends and the last time i was there both crains were in use and had a waiting list, 1 Quote Link to comment
