KiloTango1200
Reminds me of the movie 1941 where John Belushi landed his P-40 on a road, taxied up to a gas pump, and told the attendant, "Fill 'er up, Ethyl. 3 Quote Link to comment

q-tip
Love me some ww2 era aviation, its when they really started to figure out how to make good planes. 1 Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
"Real" planes have propellors! The jets may be pretty, but they lack the torque reaction of a rotary or good old Rolls Royce Merlin [ not that I am ignoring the Allisons]. The ultimate torque was the Drei Decker! Fixed crankshaft, rotating whole mass of the Le Rhone rotary engine mechanism! 3 Quote Link to comment

Exception: Staggerwing Beech that has an enclosed cabin. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
My dad lived across the street from a guy who was a test pilot for the airforce after ww2, said he hated the jets, took all the "feel" of the throttle. He said "when you would open up a mustang wide open from a cruising speed the whole plane would torque up and you would have to keep it level. Them damn jets just go woosh and you're hauling ass and hardly even felt it". He was a cool old guy I only really talked with him once though. 1 Quote Link to comment

q-tip
When my grandparents lived in enumclaw they were in the main flight path of a glider route. I used to watch them get towed up and glide back down, always wanted to do it. 3 Quote Link to comment
