Then I see he's wearing a B-17 hat.So I stop him and start talking to him.I ask him where he flew out of.(I'm familiar with the names of MOST bases in England).He says: Guam,Saipan and Okinawa. He goes on to tell me that he flew search & rescue in a Hot-rodded B-17.It had all the armor removed, a gigantic fuel tank and a life boat slung underneath. They would take off at dawn and return at dusk. He said with all the armament and plating removed,it would keep up with a Superfortress.I'm going to make sure he makes it to the Collings Foundation event this April. And, all commercial LZ Zeppelins were diesel engines for a peculiar reason. In order to keep a level altitude you need to minimize weight loss. It just so happens that when you combust say one gallon of diesel fuel, capture the exhaust, condense out the water from the exhaust you wind up with the same weight of water as the Diesel fuel you just burned. The Zeppelins had condensers on their flanks and storage tanks to store the reclaimed water. If you look closely at the film of the Hindenberg crash you can see water spilling out of the envelope. 2 Quote Link to comment

All turbines, and jets will run on diesel, we used to run our diesel trucks at DIA on jet fuel, almost the same stuff.
