[ :sneaky:]This stuff will work for most vehicles. To get the most out of what you got... Make damn sure the motor is a warm as it should be. If running a 180 thermostat go to a 190 for the winter. Reverse flush the core with a garden hose until the water comes out clean. I did this on mine and it looked like chocolate milk with dead flies in it. Power to the blower motor comes from the fuse box to the motor. From the motor it goes to the switch which sends it to ground for high speed and through a resistance to ground for lower speeds. I suppose you could check all your connections and fuse contacts and run a dedicated ground wire from the cab sheet metal to the head. The battery negative cable is also bolted to the head by the fuel pump. This would assure a good solid return. A 90 amp alternator swap is your best bet for next season. I have one in both my 710s and with headlights on at idle the heater fan is a tornado. Be sure the internal flap gate is not mixing cold with the warmed air. The foam rubber seals may have peeled off or moved? Check the linkage is traveling and working properly. Be sure the cock is opening all the way for full flow. Check for a kinked hose behind the heater and out at the head and the return to the lower rad hose. Replace any missing door seal rubber. Make sure the doors seal when closed. Plug any holes in the floor or shift boot. Quote Link to comment

jrock4224
well again there is 5 521s down here and they all say my fan works the best ....and it does work good and there is plenty of heat in the core but just want more flow .... so last night while installing a stereo I fucked with some of the linkages to get doors to close smoother and more precise ....... adjusted my heat ducts a little to seal better....... improved the volume a little .. I was surprised that it made a difference but no the difference I need ....... mind u I am whining about this during temps in the 20's so maybe its just the placebo effect.... Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
well again there is 5 521s down here and they all say my fan works the best .... Aren't you just special. I never said my heater didn't work just fine ,, it just doesn't work quite as good as my newer cars, most of them have much larger heater coils in them. The one in my wifes 88 Supra turbo is almost a quarter the size of my 510 radiator. The newer cars are also packing some serious insulation and carpeting that my Datsun doesn't have. When it was 19 degrees that little heater coil and lack of any insulation at all was the why i think it took forever to heat up. So to make a long story short ,, went to bomb to store in 510, too impatient to wait for it to warm up, took car that has every modern convenience short of a Kotex dispenser... And for the record my goofy German Shepherd would have went in either. Quote Link to comment

Buzzbomb
"Make damn sure the motor is a warm as it should be. If running a 180 thermostat go to a 190 for the winter." I'll second this recommendation.. I don't know what kind of temps you guys were seeing were you are, but where I'm at was in the deep freeze. I drove my 720 every single day during a 5? days below 5 degrees spell, and it started every single time AND was comfortable to drive because I replaced the 180 thermostat that was in there with a 195 degree thermostat. It runs the same temps during Summer as it did before, and it tests a little cleaner for emissions FWIW. As Datzenmike said, you have to make sure the cooling system is up to snuff, though. Well worth running a hotter thermostat for those in cold weather climates.. I know that doesn't do much for dinky heater cores, but as stated, it will help get the most out of what's there. jesusno2
I can tell ya right now just like any HAVC guy will, leaks are bad. If you don't have that heater box sealed up it draws in cold air from outside and if its cold enough that cold air will cool off the core damn near faster than those little heater cores can pump out. I resealed up my 510 wagon heater box and ducts, and man that heater would cook out my feet. I feel ya on the blower motors being weak though especially in a wagon. the defrost tends to suck and on a truck its important to have all good door and window seals etc. Quote Link to comment

Doctoraudio
Mine gets hot in the Winter no problem.I could use more CFM's.I am wondering if you strap two high speed computer fan to the core, how much would that help? Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
This won't solve you problem, but it might help. One port stays open instead of 100% open or close so you always have heat available. I just haven't tried to see if it will fit in a datto. Middle of the page or so. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/48282-hey-what-kind-of-thermostat-is-this/ Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
You might try here too. I go the Maradyne for one of my VW's a while back. http://www.my12voltstore.com/12_Volt_Heaters_s/76.htm Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
300 watts is 36 amps @12 volts. Your alt is only 38 (on a really good day) you'll have nothing left over for the lights or running the motor. Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
i gots 90 amps but to be honest now that we are above the teens its pretty warm inthere ..i had to turn off the heater the other day it was too hot but my buddies are still freeziing to i would think about a supplimentary heater too Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Many peeps here are using some of these 12v units from egay. http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/12v-fan-heater In winter where I live it gets down to 21 degrees F. FWIW, its a balmy 89.6 F here at the moment. Quote Link to comment
