Stinky
It was america's #2 selling import in the 70's. I believe it was called the Escort in Britain....dif name here, of course, sold as a Mercury. The 2,000cc Ford motor....durable, available, heavy (all cast-iron). I had one in a sand-rail. It had an Autolite carb that I found on a 390 in a Ford pick-em-up. The butterflies were the size of silver dollars. It ran better all the way through the power band and it didn't have the problem w/the throttle sticking, like Holley Webers do. Those motors would run a Holley 500 for the guys that ran the mini-stock cars. I am working on a rail now. I am gonna run a Z24 motor, and the only reason is the Aluminum head (a tad lighter). I ran that motor once, for a 3 year span and all I did was change the oil. At the end, I changed the plugs, and they looked perfect. What sort of carb is under dat chrome? That engine has 10 to one forged pistons, ported and cced head, balanced, Offy dual port intake, and a Racer Walsh cam. That is not chrome though, that is polished aluminum. I spent too many hours making the custom cam cover. That was originally a finned cover that was painted wrinkle black. I filed and sanded the fins off then polished it and payed a guy to do the engraving to make them look like the covers that Ford's performance division had at the time before they changed from Ford Motorsports to Ford Racing. What would be Kewle is finding someone that wants to give it the love it deserves and finish the car and get it back on the road where it belongs since I'm getting too old to get it done. 2 Quote Link to comment
