Their still testing and being conservative, but Rob's a businessman and always ready to toot his own horn. Rebello L32's make more HP with a SOHC head, so... datzenmike Posted August 12, 2021 Report Share Posted August 12, 2021 I also suspect some gears by how fast it climbs through first. It sounds fast but the video doesn't really impress as much as it should and the speedometer isn't working, maybe on purpose? That is understandable. Acceleration is best when experienced. The first dyno doesn't rev as high as the last. You can see a tach on the monitor and it's either above 7k or above 8k. No where near revved out on the street. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
paradime Posted August 14, 2021 Report Share Posted August 14, 2021 Definitely Mike. On the dyno as it's running through the gears, the trans has a crazy tight ratio. At the beginning when it's climbing through 2nd and 3rd on those narrow surface streets, my guess is he's going about 45-50 mph and ringing it out to almost 7k. I wouldn't be shocked if the Dif ring gear was in the mid 4s. Unless they plan on reaching for a 12K redline, none of this makes sense. For perspective, at 7K in 3rd, my 510 is approaching 90 mph in this vid. And yes, I'm tooting a horn for the old SR20 510. 1 Quote Link to comment

They are true 'wedge' combustion chamber engines with the combustion chamber located in the top of the cylinder bore and not in the head like most engines. The top of the engine block is machined at an angle to the cylinder axis; there is a wedge plate that is placed between the block and boring bar to bore them. Here I wasn't old enough to drive but I remember this guy's name after 55 years. He was doing some work on the stage in the auditorium having graduated maybe 5 years previously. He wore a T shirt with pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve, black greasy hair and black leather pants like Jim Morrison. Cool as shit. 2 Quote Link to comment
difrangia Posted September 20, 2021 Report Share Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) There were a couple of cars with transplanted 409's that were a legend around our country-hick area in east central Oklahoma in the early-mid 1960's. One a beautiful adobe beige 57 Bel-Air Hardtop with a 409 and an old Ford straight axle. I think the guy that built it then still has it and has changed it back to original A-Frame suspension and don't know what he has in for an engine now but he still has it stored. Other one was a Ford T Roadster pickup with a 409 pirated from a brand new 1964 two-door Biscayne that the guys dad bought just to get the engine. That machine was all engine. The young man flipped the pickup one night with it full of friends in the bucket and short bed. One of the kids got killed in the crash. The kid later joined the Air Force and became a Captain and a fighter pilot. He crashed a fighter and died on an unauthorized flight detour to his hometown. There were 2 displacements a 230 and a 250. The 230 with the single barrel carb made a whopping 165 hp and the hottest 250 with the 4 barrel made 230 hp. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
