ratsun73
so i talked to my shop teacher and he said he will be swapping a 400 small block for a guy and he might be willing to sell it(the teacher is a professional mechanic). He doesn't know the price or condition of the motor yet. go big or go home right? what do you guys think.  :D :hyper: Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
Well.........I'm not a huge Chevy fan ( a personal thing ) but. A small block has been the go to conversion of choice for tons of builders for years...... I'm not one of those guys. I do get the advantages though. Massive aftermarket support, Cheap parts, etc. You need to decide what you are going to power this rig with NOW. Before you make any more changes to the chassis. Use of a Chevy is going to require fire wall mods. You want to slide the 600lb beast as far back as possible for balance and room under the hood , And you need to make room for the rear mounted dizzy. This changes everything. You will need to go back to square # 1. Tranny choice is another thing . Will you run a Chevy tranny t-case setup? Say, from a Blazer, Or a devoiced set up? My best advice will still be : Keep it simple. Stick with as many Datsun / Nissan products as you can. This is you're first build. Plan ahead. What looks like a good idea initially, may end up costing you in a huge way down stream. 1 Quote Link to comment
ratsun73
ok ill stop having v8 illusions. how about that transfer case? Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
I'm working on a long nose slip joint unit for ya. The guy that has the T-case I want is a bit slooooooooooooooooow. Quote Link to comment
ratsun73
ok great. what kind of pricing were you thinking for that? Quote Link to comment
ratsun73
oh yea on the diff side of the axle did you use a round or semi square u bolt? Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
Round "U" bolts. The guy that has the long slip hasn't given me a price yet. He is trying to decide if he wants to sell the whole case , or just the front cover. The t-cases I have already have builds planed around them. Quote Link to comment
ratsun73
ok. can you post picts of your front axle placement on the frame? Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
Sure. You will have to open the links. Somthins screwed up on P-bucket . <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/070_zps8d79a8d9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/070_zps8d79a8d9.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 070_zps8d79a8d9.jpg"/></a> <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/304121653_zpsde83f482.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/304121653_zpsde83f482.jpg~original" border="0" alt="Datsun 4x4 conversion photo 304121653_zpsde83f482.jpg"/></a> I'm running a shackle reverce with Toyota rear springs up front. This spring is a 5" offset spring. Allows for the axle shift without lengthening the frame more than 2". Quote Link to comment
