66 VW Prostock

Recommended Posts

Long story short: Bought the car as a roller in 2006 sight unseen while I was in Kuwait. Came home built the motor, broke it, traded it for the old 61 vert (the "pink" one) Car got parted out and is now a rolling shell. Searched for it for 7 years! Found it in Illinois and went and bought it back. Somebody converted the rear to porsche irs  :puke: and planned to put a subaru motor in it!!! Talked to the original guy I traded it to and come to find out his business partner stripped the car sold the parts and moved to another state. Some of the original parts were stashed and the guy drove down from Maryland a couple days ago and we worked out a deal on them! The car was originally built by Kenny "pacman" Wilson, 10 year world record holder for VW drag racing back in the day. He used to run the "pacman" ghia, which he recently told me will be coming back out after it's 13 year retirement.

So glad the original Empi fiberglass doors were still with the car! They are damn near impossible to find and big $$$!
Pics as it was, stripped, and now:

what all was done to that original engine? Size and such?

It started as an aftermarket (oldschool) ARPM case. inside was polished and deburred, clearanced for stroker crank. Shuffle pinned. 84mm Berg crank (counterweighted, balanced, and nitrate coated) 94mm pistons and skirts. Carillo 5.5 h-beam rods, wicked engle FK98 cam (custom grind). CB performance comp. eliminator heads, 51mm intake valves, 48.4 ext. valves (titanium valves, keepers, and locks.) Tapered titanium push rods. Gene Berg 1.4 rockers. 48mm deep throat italian IDA's Weber carbs. Ceramic coated header. MSD distributor, 6AL, 3 step, and MSD timing computer. Sure there is something I'm forgetting.

It is a 2332cc motor with a 150 shot of nitrous.

what about cooling? any fans at all?? judging by the fact that there is no alternator to be seen im guessing its a track only vehicle?

Cool it off in the pits between races, no fans, no charging system. 1/4 mile drag only!!!

Thanks for posting the pics. I raced VW's in the 90's(mostly 12 to 13 sec. street strip cars) and seeing that car sure took me back. I still have an old set of super flo's on the shelf. Everything else is long gone.

I'm too old to live my life a 1/4 mile at a time. I think i'm down to a 1/16th. Just kidding, I still run 1/4 mile. Congrats on the reunion and good luck.

What are your times 60' and 1/4mile?

The VW PRA pro stock guys ran somewhere in the high 8's low 9's. I dont know if the PRA is still alive. The VW guys have been having to promote their own events since the BugIn's started dying out. We have'nt had a good VW event up here since the 90's. I never see any VW's at the strip. Wonder where they all went.

9.80 @ 137mph  1/4

There are quite a few organizations around on the east coast. Most of the cars run 1/8ths

There is a forum called ultimateaircooled  Thats where all the big names and money cars hangout and bullshit. I'm on the site though I'm not a "big name"

A bunch of VW guys ( Jerry Spearn, Mike Lawless) hang out at Yellow bullet too, though it's mostly domestic stuff. Tons of good info.

And tons of porn on the bullet.. LOL
