bdoggs87
my head says it can make it. like 60% making it. if i can pass the mountain region/out of the valley, then it's smooth sailing the rest of the way. that's the hardest part i would have to tackle. Quote Link to comment
akawes
I'm prolly gunna drive my 510 with a L20b swap from colorado springs to rochester new york. Thats gunna be ne hell of a drive but i'm down for just about anything seeing as it'll be my road trip home after i get out of the army. Quote Link to comment
bdoggs87
when do you plan on doing this trip? would like to know if you come across any problems. you'll hit a slight up hill battle when going through PA but other than that everything is flat land. Quote Link to comment
akawes
It will be around the end of may. Quote Link to comment
darrel
don't be a pussy, take the mountain route through colorado. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Is it going to have a 5sp and/or higher rear end gearing? 4th gear drone at 65mph for that long of a time is pretty tiring... Quote Link to comment
racerx
what if somebody follows you? Then you can drive the Datsun back and being safe at the same time. Quote Link to comment
uieluck
don't be a pussy, take the mountain route through colorado. When I drove east from CA.,, it was actually more sketchy going through UT rather than CO. UT has 18 ba'zillions of miles with nothing, PURE NOTHING. Plus, it was really trippy seeing it snow in May when it was 50+degree's out (through the mountains). Not a great feeling, when driving a 71' goon. Or I should say "ideal". BTW: I did have AAA bleach your butthole tow package. Quote Link to comment
bdoggs87
5 speed. Also no one will be following me. Sketchy right? Yeah ut is definitely nothing. And breaking down in the middle of nowhere scares the crap out of me Quote Link to comment
darrel
A whole lotta nothing whichever route you take. AZ, NM, TX. Can't beat the rockies for a nice scenic drive, snow melts fast in May. The only thing you really have to worry about is getting to the top of the next mountain, then it's downhill after that till the next mountain. ;-) 2 trips of 4200 miles in my zxt, 2200 mile trip in my 240z in which was my first refresh ever of any engine and that included a track day at willow springs. 2 yrs ago went on a 5k mile trip, but that was in a rental, gotta have the creature comforts sometime. ;-) Quote Link to comment
Bandit
Does it have any gauges?I never have any luck with long trips but knowing how your car is running is really important for these kind of trips, and recommend get the AAA comverage. If you dont use it now you will end up using it at some point. Quote Link to comment
racerx
definitely need gauges, temp., voltage and oil pressure..gots to have., specially on long trips. Quote Link to comment
bdoggs87
Yes it has gauges so now worries on that. but yeah the only challenge will be the high altitudes messing with the engine. An idea popped in my head, Rent a uhaul truck with a auto transport just to get past the mountain then ride the rest in the car. Quote Link to comment
darrel
you worry too much. Quote Link to comment
bdoggs87
So turns out it's going to be a L20B. Brother says its a solid motor but carb is smoking. Any solutions on that issue? Quote Link to comment
bdoggs87
Also the carbs are weber ITBs. Burning a white/grayish smoke Quote Link to comment
racerx
the more I hear the more I'm convince you should trailer it...good to take risk but a calculated one... Quote Link to comment
