Eagle_Adam
ok, down to the last few things before i can check this build off my list for a while. Im stuck, on a tranny..... actually im stuck on how to mount said tranny propperly... I pulled a 5 speed from a 720, and the truck had a 4 speed in it to begin with. The 4 speed mount is about an inch too tall and the 5 speed diddnt have a mount. Sooooooooooo, whats the correct x member and mount to install a 720 5 speed in a 620? Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Are you swapping out a long tail 4 speed? If so, you should just be able to use the same mount and crossmember. Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
yes, the 620 was a 4 speed, i have a 80/81 720 5 speed from a L20 powered 720. I thought the mount was the same regardless but i was tied and so was skib so we called it a night and went upstairs for a safety meeting Link to comment
]2eDeYe
If they are the same length you should be able to use the same mount. If the old one in the shorter 4-speed you may need to order a new rubber mount and use the other ste of holes at the frame to mount the crossmember. Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
no, the cross member lined up, it was just an inch or so away from the mount. I still haven't tried again so its prob just something stupid Link to comment
yello620
Long tail 4spd crossmembers are different than long tail 5spd crossmembers. As far as i know the rubber mount is the same, but may not be the same as the 720. Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
Long tail 4spd crossmembers are different than long tail 5spd crossmembers. fuck Link to comment
yello620
A 4spd crossmember is basically flat across the top surface. From the ends where it mounts to the frame to the center where the trans mounts. A 5spd crossmember drops down about an inch just inboard of the frame mounting flange. The center section is still flat after that drop. So it is kinda like this.--\______/--. Once you see the two styles, they will be obvious. Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
i think you nailed the issue yello620....... cus right now it seems like the x mem is an inch off Link to comment
yello620
And i threw one of those crossmembers in the scrap about nine months ago. Figured i would never need one. Link to comment
