Busta Nut
Getting tired of the Neeewbie thread so I'm gonna do the rest of my updates here. This is where I was.... http://community.rat...wbie-to-ratsun/ Here is where I am. Parking light fuse blew last week. Melted my fuse box. :crying: Posted my "240z issues..." and got some feedback. I love Ratsun!! Can't afford the upgrade right now, but definitely a must! Here's what I ended up doing: Took it out. Damn, it's messed up. Treasure baaaath!! Busted out my brush kit and Zip Zippy Vinegar is an amazing liquid... So...I came across this stuff in my stocking last year. Put it on Zip Zippy cause the grip fell off over time. Wanted to see how tough it was in an auto environment. It impressed the shit out of me. Six months now and it's only dirty. Not a hint of failure yet  . Supposed to withstand heat up to 180*C  . Let's see what happens... A bit of dielectric grease Since it's apart. Why not clean up? All back together with brand new fuses. Don't think I'm gonna keep the cover on anymore, though. Wanted to see how hot it would get, so I left the lights on for about 30 minutes checking it every few. This is the hottest it got. Skib
Id wipe that grease off. its nonconductive and used as a sealant for the rubber portions of electrical connectors. 1 Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE
Very innovative fix on the fuse holder. Good job. Quote Link to comment
DAT510
oooooooooooo You have a 25 amp on the headlights instead of a 10 amp!! lol Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Nice man! Innovation rocks. What did you bathe it in? White Vinegar Id wipe that grease off. its nonconductive and used as a sealant for the rubber portions of electrical connectors. Was not aware of that. Consider it done! oooooooooooo You have a 25 amp on the headlights instead of a 10 amp!! lol It appears that way. The fuse reads 250v on one side. Forgot to mention that I put a 15A instead of a 20A for the parking lights....we'll see how that goes  . Quote Link to comment
Skib
Vinegar cleans copper connections up like magic :D Was not aware of that. Consider it done! lol I think weve all done it at least once thinking the same thing Forgot to mention that I put a 15A instead of a 20A for the parking lights....we'll see how that goes. highly recommend putting the correct amp fuses in all of them. there designed to keep all of your electrical components safe from frying, putting to big a fuse in may cause damage before the fuse blows. Stupid_fast
Id wipe that grease off. its nonconductive and used as a sealant for the rubber portions of electrical connectors. ^This, I had some on top of all my fuse connectors while I didn't have a fuse box cover, and it caused my brake lights to stop working eventually. cleaned out the fuse box and reset all the fuses and everything works fine now. I would not use dielectric grease in between any connections! Quote Link to comment
skyblue
nice. was wondering how it was doing. Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Had a little time to clean up my loogie yesterday. Decided to tackle my engine bay work light. Hasn't worked since I got the car but never did anything but change the bulb. Let's see if we have power at the light. Everyone who want to diagnose electrical should have one of these power probes... Lights up red to show power. Green for ground. We have power and it grounds through the body. Problem is internal. Inside. The wires are pinched by the ground. Bent the tabs gently. Nut on the back and it comes right out... Had to be careful taking the switch apart. It's spring loaded and has a tiny black seat that I can see going....poing! :w00t: Cozy hammock for the spring. Parts. Treasure Baaaaaath!! Polish anyone? OH YA!! All back together Shop pix.. Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Did some engine bay clean up over the past couple days. Forgot about this... Scrub a dub... Loves me my Datsun... More cleaning.... New fuel filter.. Back together... 1 Quote Link to comment

Boaty
Wait. Delectric grease isn't conductive so it doesn't conduct between contacts. If it's not for connections, that's why you find it in some oem connectors? Namely Chevy.. it's on most anything Chevy I've worked on that's later model. Put 'em in the weatherpak connectors... The same thing you're supposed to put on bulb contacts to avoid them corroding... or seizing in a socket so you can't get 'em off? Skib, you've officially confused me o.O I wouldn't use it in a fuse box though... but I've used it on pretty much everything else and never had a problem in like 10 years since I did it. Not supposed to goop it on like KY on a Wednesday night, but... EDIT: Works wonders on spark plug connectors & boots. Keeps water out. Keeps the connectors from corroding on the plug terminals.. comes with every set of Accel wires, so you don't end up yanking the terminal off the plug wire... Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
So. I filled my tank all the way a few weeks ago, something I haven't done yet cause I knew I had some vapor hoses seeping. Well, it was a lot worse than I though. I lost a half a gallon of gas before I left the station and my buddy said he could smell it pretty bad when he was following me. If he could smell it, imagine how I felt.... This was something I needed to tackle before driving to Canby...let's do it. Removed access panel EVAP smoke machine Smoke was coming from EVERYWHERE Removed my panel and I had no idea this was here... Had to drop the tank to access some hoses Wanted to make sure there wasn't a crack in my filler neck.....smoke it out!!! :D Ball droppage... no leaks!! Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Some clean up... Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
More problem areas.. My baby has cancer... :( All these "problem areas" will be delt with down the road when a COMPLETE resto is done. 1 Quote Link to comment
tfreer85
I gotta ask, what are you using to clean your engine bay and fuel door etc? Looks like your getting great results! Quote Link to comment
datsundash
Id wipe that grease off. its nonconductive and used as a sealant for the rubber portions of electrical connectors. FAIL!!! Although it is nonconductive it will protect the fuse panel from future corrosion, since the hotter metal gets the faster it corrodes this is an excellent place to use the grease. Busta Nut
As part of the "getting rid of fumes" faze, I decided to to the weatherstrip on the hatch and check the tail light seals. While they're off, might as well paint'em... My bro stopped by for a BBQ..... ...and brought me this  Quote Link to comment
