Out with the new....in with the new......that's crap Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
why not a gear reduction starter from a late model Z? Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Never even thought about it.... .....I've had this one for a while just never used it so it looks brand new..... Yes......I cheated my parts company.......sue me. Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Well......everything was going pretty good till Thursday night. Ran up to Costco......in 5Teezy of course......and on the way back I was sitting at a light when out of the blue this intake/exhaust hiss began....idle got a little rough....my heart started to pound. Got it back to the shop....thank goodness......I don't think I have any engine damage cause it runs pretty smooth off idle.....noise just gets louder.... This same noise started to happen when I met up in Redding before Canby.....it wasn't as loud and I checked all my intake and exhaust bolts..... ....the bolt on #3 that holds the intake & exhaust was slightly loose....when I went to tighten it, it felt like it was gonna strip....I left it at it's tightest point and the noise went away..... till the other night when it came back with a vengeance.......listen: This is a pretty handy trick.....take your stethoscope and pull the hose off...you can add an extension of hose if it's too short..... Use the hose end to listen for changes in air pressure around your intake and exhaust port........found one.... I'll have to heli-coil that one before I drive her again......gonna be a few days before that happens.......said it before and I'll probably keep saying it for life...... ..........there ain't enough hours in a day. Ranman72
sounds like a major exhaust leak now get it heli-coiled Thanks for the trick with the stethoscope I never thought of that Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
I had some downtime at work this week......didn't want to rip the carbs off though cause I didn't want to push the car in and out all week.....I'll dod that this week. I decided to clean up some of my trim.....the hood piece and the one that goes under the grill. The bastard that owned this dime before me had sprayed EVERYTHING with shitty silver primer.......not even grey......I don't even know where to get silver primer. Anyways......on with the oics.... Jasco is some nasty shit.......don't get that shit on you.... Jasco took most of it off.........I also drill out the rivets to clean up the little brackets. ...then I started trying different chemicals we had on the shelf to try to rub the remaining paint off....... This seemed to work the best.......now I can see some flaws in the metal that need some polishing...... .......now for some polishing. Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
I decided to put studs in the head instead of using bolts.........better grip!! ....but first I had to heli-coil my stripped hole.. Little bit of grease to pick up all the shavings.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
After finding that leak and putting those studs in it started missing on #2.........great. Quick compression test was good..... Put it back together and while it was running I put my hand over the horn #2............no vacuum?? Grabbed the stethoscope again and found a bigger leak..........daaaaaaaa there's a problem boss.... Busta Nut
No idea how this happens sitting at a stoplight.........cheap ass plastic I guess. I can't find the rest of it..... I still had the ones from the Z which were much better quality.... Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
bummer, at least you found it! Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Now.....because I'm using the Z spacers the carbs hit the manifold before they're tight.... ......just one thing after another...... You can see the witness mark.... Quote Link to comment
