TheBirdistheWord
Before I had the datsun I sprayed the hood of my 91 caprice with plasti dip after getting it back together, for cheap, from a front end collision. I was like alot of people on many different forums, very curious. However, I was not willing to take the plunge on my $1000 wheels. I had the opportunity to save some money and use this after the accident and was thoroughly impressed with the finish and durability considering I only used one can (about 1 1/2 ish coats) and didnt do any kind of sanding or correcting afterwards. As well as it being like 2 in the morning in an outdoor carport....... in November. OICS before: practiced on the grill first. after: I also took this opportunity to post pictures of my old car because I miss her EDIT:: also I remember when I was looking into doing this I couldnt find ANY D.I.Y. results so I figured this could help some people with a decision. Laecaon
Look at this thread for how painting the plasti dip turns out. http://www.chicagoz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28076 Quote Link to comment
Lee R
I used Plastidip on my Spook spoiler (mind the dirt)..... Quote Link to comment
5NDIME
My question is how durable is this stuff on a wheel. I'm assuming it needs to be painted over to be tough enough to use a wheel brush on? Quote Link to comment
Jasper
I like the rattle cans of Plasti-Dip. I sprayed the inside of my 240z's front fenders with it. I have no idea how long it will last, but I think it will protect the metal pretty good. I also sprayed the trim around my Ranger's bed with it because I kept getting fiberglass needles in my arms. No more needles, and it's not peeling off yet. Did this about 6 months ago. Quote Link to comment
AZDIMER
I used it on my controls for my Ruckus and it came out well. Just gotta make sure it is thick enough. I used the rattle can. Quote Link to comment
SKkeeterZ
did this to my chrome pathfinder wheels today plasti dip dries pretty quick even in the cold Quote Link to comment
crackerjack69
Also there's a plastiwrap that's similar. Dries a bit more durable and uv resistant than plastidip. I've seen some pretty high-end vehicles covered in this stuff. Seriously considering using thier matte orange for my goon. They even sell scented plastiwrap, lolz. Quote Link to comment
datson4life
did it to my spare rim, i used PlastiDip just to test and see how my rims would look white, and to stay on the safe side and just peel off instead of getting high again on paint thinner, and avoid headaches Quote Link to comment
jputz
My Brother in Law paints 3-4 cars a week with plasti-dip. His Trailblazer looks pretty good, been painted about a month and has held up pretty good. Quote Link to comment
freetheoranges
I love plasti dip however I wish I could track down a sprayer and some gallons (not for sale in CA). :( Been using the spray cans. Gunmetal Grey is impressive. I really don't like my fake rims and the dipping was a little rushed so it is runny and I'm entirely not satisfied yet with the outcome. I want to try a plaid orange and blue scheme if I can find a plastidip sprayer and some gallons. Quote Link to comment
crackerjack69
Should be able to use any HVLP gun to shoot it. Gallons can be purchased online. Quote Link to comment
