I would put it on the upper hose and not the lower hose. The upper hose is the true temperature of the coolant exiting the engine and into the radiator while the lower hose is the cooler coolant entering the engine from the radiator.

I have a DK4 and an Acel coil (both non point) and no ballast resistor (not needed) in the setup and it has never had a problem in YEARS....1.4 ohms on the coil.
Super busy so only working on it when time allows. I did check voltage again and now it seems to fall and jump....8 volts up to 14! Had the alternator checked at the shop and it is fine. Coil got too hot to touch so swapped with another coil and it fired right up.
How can a 12 volt coil produce 14 volts?
