ivan
Hello there I have a 1977 datsun b210 hatchback with a manual tranny. Recently, I have problems with starting the car. The motor turns but the car won't start. I checked if it has some spark but no spark on plugs, checked the distributor cap to see if there was a problem with it but nothing the distributor cap was brand new, checked the spark plugs and saw that there were some plugs with some oil on them I believe they were on cylinders 3/4. I dont know how to check for voltage on the rotor on the distributor or on the coil. Can anyone Help me please... Quote Link to comment
Zeusimo
Any History? Has The Car Been Sitting.. Or Was It A Reliable Daily? All You Really Need To Check Is Fuel/Air And Spark Pull Spark Plugs And Test Individually By Grounding Then To The Block (Have Someone Crank The Motor) And Look For A Blue/Whitish Spark Make Sure Carb Is Pumping Gas To Motor And Check Timing, Valve Lash, Ect.. datzenmike
Pull a plug wire off and put a spare plug in the end and lay it on a grounded surface. Crank it over and look for a blue/pink spark. Yes or no? 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The most common problem with B210 is: Choke is stuck open. Remove the top of the air cleaner, and verify that the choke plate is completely close when the engine is cold. If it's open an 1/8" it can be difficult to start. Quote Link to comment
king bee66
this is a texas car, my choke is always open Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
Balast resistor, have you tightend the conections on it? Couse the element is very fragile and it should be removed from the car ti tighten conection. Just a thought. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Choke being open makes it harder to start the car, even at 70 degree weather. But assuming it started OK before, do what Mike suggests -- the normal spark test. The electrical connections to the ballast resistor and coil are another common problem. Tighten them down. gene knight
i am having same issue with my 78 b210, i have replaced plugs , cap and rotor, have spark from coil and wires and it has no points dizzy, it has a electronic relay instead in the dizzy, i replaced fuel pump about 5 months ago, had flushed out tank and replaced rubber fuel lines, had carburator rebuilt professionally, choke is electric and is closed, it ran b4 i flushed tank and replaced fuel pump, i also replaced battery last week there is fuel getting to carb also... i am getting frustrated Quote Link to comment
505plus5
Timing, maybe?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This would be a remote igniter electric ignition. Same generally as the matchbox. If you have spark at the plug ends, assume it's working ok. If the distributor was not removed and messed with the timing should still be the same. Pull and look at the plugs, are they wet? or fouled? Work the throttle does gas squirt into the primary barrel? 1 Quote Link to comment
gene knight
Datzenmike: I checked for spark and checked plugs, dizzy looks to be not messed with. Carb rebuilt gets fuel and throttle works Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well lets go back some... You piggybacked your problem onto an old thread and there's lots of unknowns. (or if I knew I've forgotten for now) What was done to your B before this problem started. Has it ever run ok? Did this just start after those parts were put on? anything??? Quote Link to comment
gene knight
datzenmike: it ran b4 and was a daily driver it had bad gas so the only thing i did was flush out tank, replace fuel pump, blew out metal fuel lines and replaced rubber lines, had carb rebuilt, changed battery, replaced spark plugs, cap and rotor, checked for spark at coil and wires, i am getting fuel at carb, electric choke and choke plate closed sprayed starting fluid. i was told it could be the transistor ignition box under dash. im getting frustrated my dizzy has no points just a electric relay inside of dizzy Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If you have spark you have ignition. Firing order is 1342 in a counter clockwise direction. If none of the settings were changed then assume good for now. Carb may have gas but what's the engine getting? Carb gasket vacuum leak? What do the plugs look like? Wet, dry, NGK? Cosmonaut
Did it start when you sprayed in starting fluid? Or at least try to. Did you have your existing carb rebuilt? Or did you replace it with an aftermarket rebuild? Quote Link to comment
gene knight
Cosmonaut: datsun model #306 carb rebuilt and tested, new clean dry plugs and they are NGK 1 Quote Link to comment
