Willdatsun
Thought some of you car builders might like to see something I just made. I wanted 80s reliable Nissan Engine , trans, axles, wiring, gauges etc in an early 70s 2 door Range Rover, so that's what I built :) Range Rover chassis back from shotblasting Making clearance for crankshaft pulley. Then a coat of 2K black Also had front axle, calipers and swivel housings etc blasted and etch primed so I masked and painted these in the same paint as the chassis. VIOLA front calipers blasted, painted, rebuilt. fitting new swivel housing bearings, then checking preload etc. New halfshaft seals installed and new hub grease seals etc. New brake pipe, calipers and wheels on, radius arms bolted up, ready to wheel under the chassis! Axle rolled into place, radius arms bolted to chassis. Springs and shocks put in And panhard rod and steering box Rollin' on all fours. Cue Gearbox and transfer case from 1992 Nissan Patrol 4.2 Diesel And an engine please. The TD42 engine, inline cast iron OHV six. 4169cc normally aspirated. I also want to turbocharge it so ... rebuilt Garrett T3 hybrid turbo please.. Cutting and shutting an old stainless downpipe to suit and tacking together. And a 1/8 npt boss for a pyrometer probe. Tig welded Installed, ready for next part of exhaust to be made. Bulkhead is dropped into place to check exhaust clearance. Nice to have the first bit of bodywork on. 1 Quote Link to comment

Willdatsun
Project continues with work on the bodyshell.- sandblasted meanwhile... making exhaust (stainless) Stonechip paint / primer Also been slicing and dicing an old intercooler to get it to work on this car, had a piece of tube turned locally , I cut it and the end tank of the intercooler and made a filler piece then got it all tig welded in Testing intercooler placement ready for making mounts painting the shell Starting to really take shape Patrol loom, fusebox, clutch and brake pedals and column installed. Front floor installed Seat bases and drivers seat. Also some wiring, interfacing the two looms a the A pillar. Electrical units mounted Doors on , Not finished yet, however, time for a blast, been itching to take it for a burn. Drives fantastic. Well happy. Makes a great noise too. Passed inspection! Drives pretty good, needs bigger wheels. 1 Quote Link to comment
Willdatsun
Now with improved wheels :) 8.5 x 15 Westerns (previously on one of my Patrols) Quite like the way this has turned out. Made a little pod thing and installed Pyro and boost gauges. Also I have installed the switch for the rear diff lock. (Standard Patrol feature!) Has been pressed into service as my towing vehicle. 1000 miles traveled so far. Good feeling! The exterior panels are mostly still original paint so I guess that makes this a bit of a sleeper. The underneath is like new and the top is showing its 39 years of age. So what I have ended up with is a body and chassis of Range Rover (I love the way they all bolt together) but without the wheezy thirsty V8, the clonky old transmission, the constant 4 wheel drive, the unreliable electrics etc. Now it has 4.2 turbo intercooled diesel, 5 speed manual, servo assisted cluch, rear diff lock, tach, electric windows (Patrol of course) adjustable steering column. Intermittent front and rear wipe (whole Patrol wiring harness used) and even the headlamps are from the Patrol so I can see at night! 1 Quote Link to comment
Ken_B
That is amazing, always liked the look of those old Range rovers, keep up the good work! Quote Link to comment
yello620
Incredible. Any chance you have more pics of the Nissan axle assemblies, and maybe the front brakes? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
That's just fucking wild! How did none of the rest of you guys not notice this Stagea on the trailer? Show more of this bad boy Goon! Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
NICE!!!! Damn fine bit of work there sir! Quote Link to comment
Willdatsun
Stageas can be had for virtually nothing over here! I picked that one off ebay for under £1000 ($1500) with only broken tail lights . They are all auto trans and nearly all are 4wd. It has RB25DET . I sold this a month ago. Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Great build, thanks for sharing  Wish we could get the newer Patrol axles over here :( Quote Link to comment
Willdatsun
They are actually very hard to get in England now, scrap 4.2 Patrols (Y60) fetch lots of money, mostly for the engines and axles. Quote Link to comment
