New Plates in Washington

My plates are due (daily driver). I heard a rumour that all new plates are flat, no longer any 'stamped' plates. Is this true? That's the only reason I don't have personalized plates, I like the stamped ones.

idaho and montana went flat couple years ago, no surprise i am sure all states will be soon.

Are all those convicts out of work now? I heard it was cheaper that they didn't have to have them stamped.

I bet you are right. Also, I'm sure most of you know this but they make you replace them every 7 years too due to the reflective paint.

Yep, I got my Datsun in 2003, now I gotta pay $20 for new plates (although they still look brand new). The renewal notice says the reflective finish is "only guaranteed for five years" so the make you buy new ones every seventh year. For $40 they will make a new plate with the same number, otherwise they just give you a new number.

in oregon you pay more for the reflective ones... oh yes i will pay you to give me tickets. first thing i would do is grind off the reflective paint or paint over it.

my new washington plates were flat when i got them back in 2006

Actually it depends on which plate factory they come from. Personalized plates have been flat for a couple years, as have some plates you get when you pay the extra to get the same number. But not always- I paid the extra for the same number and got stamped plates a couple months ago, yet someone in King County did the same 2 years ago and got flat plates. I've never gotten flat plates. Pierce county plates are still stamped for the most part. I'm sure eventually they'll all be flat. I suppose the switch to 7-character plates for cars may be the turnover, but some counties still have backlogs of older 999 ZZZ type plates.

 

I just wish I could get my OLD plate numbers back- the 7-year replacements started in 2000, but you couldn't retain your old number until 2004. By then, I'd lost all my old numbers to plate replacements. Most of my cars still had green-on-white plates until then. Others were repeating-letters or sequential.

My personalized plates as of a year and a half ago, are now flat ones. I sure liked the stamped ones better.

They made us replace them every so often even when they were stamped, due to the same thing....sounds like bs to me personally.

I still run the stamped 510 plate on my car even though they gave me new ones.

I have flat personalized plates for the Fairlady. I got them originally in 2007.

I have to keep these tabs current even though its not a car I drive :D

I think im going to register my 510 as a Classic car and then i can use plates from 1969 and only have to have 1 rear plate no front required

thats the way to go. i run 63 plates on my belair. its nice not having to renew every year!!

Im putting classic plates on the 620, i ordered a 78 plate off ebay, cant wait to put that on :) Just got to be sneaky and have a good excuse if i get pulled over for driving it to much lol.

Just don't ever have anything in the bed. You can't use it as a utility vehicle which means no hauling stuff.

You're always on a pleasure drive or going to or from a Datsun meet. :)

I want to do that with my 77, i even got old school 77 idaho plate......i just see the po-po too much, and I am in the public eye with my job etc, i just couldn't get away with it.......sucks.
