any interest in having some one find parts?

Recommended Posts

i'm frequently hitting up these hole in the wall wrecking yards for myself between northern oregon and the olympic peninsula. always running across unique and classic cars and trucks. it seems i always leave on good terms with the folks that run them and sometimes get to be on a first name basis. anyway if some one wre in need of that special part for thier car or truck, datsun or not. i can keep a look out.

i'll keep my eye out for the both of you.

kinda thought there would be more interest than this though. i run across a wide variety of vehicles, from hilmans to borgewards*, '20s all the way to present. i currently know of at least 3 yards with more than 40 pre 60 vehicles.

Have you ever stopped in at I-5 wrecking? What kind of yard is it, looks like older cars.

they are part of parts network. will not let you browse. you need to know exactly what you want and you cant go into the yard.

and they were rude to me after i said "i have 7 pre 85 toyota's, i want to see what you have. i know ill buy something i just dont know what that is yet"

so in my opinion F them

prices were like $300 for a pickup 3rd member steep.

I stopped by there (I5 Auto Wreckers) a few years ago.

I was told to "go out & look in the yard" for what I wanted.

It's (or was) a mixture of newer & older cars.

I guess times have changed.

I find that is fairly common at wrecking yards.

My strategy is to have a list of specific parts, including minor stuff. I show them the list and they say "go out back and look". The same of places (if I don't say a specific part) just say "no" and won't let me go out back. Same places, different days. Sometime the weekend guys are less helpful or vice-versa.

The ones I do business with most are South End in renton and Ace along green river in Kent. But the pullapart (farther away from me) in Lynwood has to be the best, reasonable prices and total wanderability.

Hey tdaaj...

Thanks for the offer man. I was talking with angliagt (Doug) the other day and he was telling me about a little Simca truck up in Oregon. That kind of stuff is always really neat for me to see and know about. While it may or may not work out for me to come get it (then find a place to put it:)) I have at least started a great conversation with somebody.

I know that the offer you made was formed out of the same desire that Doug and were talking about...not seeing all this really cool, irreplaceable stuff get squished. I have so many weird friends (don't we all!) that are into all sorts of crazy kinds of cars and would drive to anywhere to find certain ones. I know that for me...I would love to see what you see in those yards and be able to connect the people who want the stuff with the stuff.

I have friends that work with Citroens, DKW, BMW, Austin, Renaults, Fiats, Simcas, VWs, old American iron and old Euro and Jap bikes...not to mention the freaks like myself that would flip out over an old Panhard or Borgward. God forgive me for the pain that I would bring to the person that got in my way if I ever found an old Tatra.

I mean I can think of about 20 guys that I would call with the stuff your describing.

If you ever see one of these............yeah.....you need to call me.

Do you think that you can ever get some pics? I could pass them on so fast and then they would be able to make the call on a roadtrip.

I look forward to seeing especially the old European stuff.

Keep up the good work man. BTW...you just need to ask and I'm all over helpin you in the same way from Colorado.

I'm on the lookout for a 58-59-60 Datsun Sedan Ted. Course I'd have to worry about shipping it, but if you run across one let me know!

Dude Denver. I am getting to know a guy with an amazing collection of crazy. There are 200 cars in this building and he has more.

Notice the PUGEOT 402 in the first photo (headlights under grill)!:eek: I will ask if he has a Panhard, but as you ca imagine he is pretty eccentric and awesome and keeps to himself a lot.

I'm looking for factory fog lights (I'm pretty sure they were a datsun accessory according to the parts fiche) for my 521 pickup.

Then again, I'm looking for just about anything unique for my 521.

Thanks man! :)

i don't exactly know warf! He hasn't told me the precise location. In MA somewhere. At his peak he had 300 crazy cars. He showed me a photo of one where he ganged 2 toyota hemis together for a v16! He has a volvo 1800es that he turned into an elcamino style truck. He just has saved these one of a kinds and orphans over many years. He has a taste for the weird and unusual, as you can see.

Sorry to do this to ya Fisch...but this "guy" seems to be pulling some "wool" over someone elses "eyes"...if you know what I mean. Yeah, I'll bet this guy WISHES that he had found that barn...check out the following link.

BTW...I was wondering what you would think about trying a little Photoshop action of my truck with an old 60's style topper on the back. It would be really neato to have for a road trip coming up this fall. I guess that I could just print a pic and use a Sharpie.

You know I thought it was a little to good to be true. I need to reread his e-mail, I got so excited I thought he was talking about his cars, Maybe I went right to the photos and missed that he was talking about this find. Next time I am by my desktop I will double check the wording and report back!

Dude not to get off topic, but that dude was totally lying to me! And I knew these photos looked familiar because I'd seeen them before but couldn't remember where. But this is what he said. Bold face freakin lie.

"Scott, here are a few pics from one of my buildings I keep some of the unusual cars in from across the big pond. There are 200+ here and most are one of a kind....last of their breed..if I didn't save them...they would be gone...at the time most were unwanted ugly ducklings."

What an ass. He presented it so matter of fact that even though I smelled something fishy, I ignored my gut. BUT, I know he has some cars because I almost bought an early English Ford Escort from him that I went down and saw in person and took pictures of and he had a ton of other cars on his property too. Even a DKW. For real. Saw it with my own eyes. Course most of them were rotted, nothing like this 'barn find'.

I think he is just totally eccentric.

When I first met him I thought, lonely old fellow, eccentric, liked to talk. Had a few kool cars rotting away. I guess I was right and the internet made it to easy for him to make himself look even cooler to a guy like me who loved kooky cars, and liked to e-mail back and forth about them.

I'm so dissapointed.
