  1. I was gonna start on my rims Sunday afternoon, but I didn't pick up a new respirator. The rims will be on hold till I can get the respirator and some steel wool. I also have to build/buy some saw horses to make working on the hood and cowl easier. Might go ahead and buy a full paint suit with the full mask since I have a lot of stripping and paint to do. I have a feeling that would be the safest route with this being my first major paint project.
  2. I just bought a voltage regulator les than a month ago from O'reilys. It was ~$35 after tax and has that limited lifetime warranty. I have since switched to a 200sx alternator due to my 35amp dying on me, but I don't think that was related to the voltage regulator. I had a coolant leak above the alt from the lower water neck and the 35amp was pretty well gunked up. One thing about the O'reily VR, it has a board on the bottem where it mounts to the firewall with a long spring peice. This spring quickly heats up and burns the board, causing some smoke. Both the old VR and the new VR burned in the same pattern, so these may not be quality parts.
  3. That thing is a monster. I think my 620 just crapped itself...
  4. I don't know, 500-600 to risk it vs 800 garunteed. Depends on the company but I would almost say go with shipping it.
  5. That engine actually looks small in there. I was thinking it would be huge honestly, but I have never really seen a 411 up close. With all that room you could make one heck of a modified B6/BP fit. This build just keeps getting better and better.
  6. Will belly dance for title? 265lbs comin your way!
  7. Nice looking project. If you decide to not tackle it you could send it my way. I want a 4dr 510 so badly :(
  8. Thanks for the quick reply Bob. I have wheels turning now :)
  9. Hrm, that is interesting. I have never had a chance to really look at a miata but they seem to have a ton of room in front of the engine looking at those pics. It that where the engine sits in the miata normally?
  10. Wow, amazing job. I love seeing Datsuns set up as hot rods. That stance is insane, really helps the truck stand out.
  11. Ah ok, keep it for a 5-speed swap then :)
  12. I haven't had time to check yet, the alternator went out and I had to quick fit a 200sx alt (only one available locally). Then the alternator bolt broke the next day on the way home from work... It has been an interesting week to say the least. I will try to work on installing the steering wheel tomorrow and see if it works.
  13. I agree with datsunaholic. I wouldn't drive a fresh swap 2000+ miles. Hell, 500+ would be pushing it because a lot of shops do crappy jobs so people will bring the car back for more work. If the engine is broken in (2000+ miles since the swap) and the car has been driven regularly, bring tools and filters and go for it. Might want to bring a spare alternator, especially if it has a reman POS. That is a long trip so be as prepared as possible.
  14. Indy should slam my 620... I need another lawn ornament :)
  15. Rockauto.com still carries 620 radiators but not for the 73-74 models. the 75+ ones were larger and cooled better so those are the only ones available. They were used with the L20B, should be more than enough for an L18. However, they are also 250+, so either aluminum for good cooling, or rock auto for the stock look. Either way the price is close (been looking cause I want to replace my ghetto single core radiator)
  16. Forgot to update here, sent feedback in buyer and seller thread though. Great seller and fair prices. Got the steering wheel and hub fast and description was very accurate. thanks again CorAce
  17. I don't want to start a new thread for this. so what paint stripper do you guys use? I picked up some stuff from the local hardware store but I'm not really sure about it. It is Jasco Spray on stripper http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=102&prodid=214 I am looking to strip some rims and eventually most of the panels on my 620. Hope this stuff works :P
  18. That looks like a fun little project. The only thing that bothers me would be all of the wires laying around. I like to try to keep wiring clean when possible because it can be such a headache if something rubs bare and shorts out. As soon as I get the money up I will buy another wiring harness for my 620 to extend and hide all of my wire with the correct connections and wire colors. Another thing, if you don't end up using that 5-speed I think that may be the one the euro roadsters use for their conversions. If so it is worth a decent bit of change, but you would have to check with someone like datzenmike to see if that is the right one. Good luck with the car. Remember, take care of your Datsun and it will take care of you.
  19. ATP that shifter is amazing. One of these days I will be able to afford one, by then they probably won't be available anymore... Woe is me :(
  20. Gimme one of your trucks :(
  21. Thanks, I'll print off a few of those tonight. Gives me something fun to do at work :P That resto work on the headlight bezels and heater looks great. Seeing the amount of detail work you are doing makes me want to try harder on my truck. Keep up the great work and make that head turner beautiful.
  22. Great work Bob. The 411 looks like it will be really fun to drive.
  23. Haha, I wish I had the vacation time to drive to Canby. Looks like the only way I will make it is the fly out Datsunless :(
  24. Yea, had a small development. Note to self, get new bolts when replacing the alternator. 40 year old bolts like the break... New hardware is installed now and lock washers are in place :)
