  1. Haha, thanks Mike. Good stuff. I'm pretty sure I'll have to mill the deck some to clean it up but I'll try to get as little shaved as possible. Looks like I would have been better off swapping my U67 onto a stock Z22... Oh well, the only Z22 short block I've found is $400 and I already have the L20. $400 in machining might get it ready...
  2. The pistons are hypereutectic mitsubishi flat pistons for the 4g64 single cam. I didn't look at the Z22 pistons because they are .05 below deck height with the rod/crank setup I plan to use and I may have to have the deck milled due to pitting from the rust. Looks like the summit calculator may be close then :( Looks like I may grab Z22 replacements and have them milled down if I have to mill the block.
  3. That stache! I think I want that... Will a handle bar stache go with a 8g septum ring? IMO you should have made them get their hands dirty cleaning up in the garage and polishing the datsuns while you assembled the engine, but it's ok...
  4. Contacted Schneider about their regrinds but I figured I'd ask here as well. 270 int/280 exh .460 lift or 274 int/274 exh .480 lift. Gathering parts for the LZ build.

  5. Edited: Parts bought, new question on page 2 post #23. Alrighty, here we go: Z22 crank - 92mm L20B rods - 145.9mm Piston pin height - 34.8mm Cylinder bore - 86.5mm L20B block - 227.45mm deck height or possibly 227.20 after a shave clean. Unshaved U67 head - 45.2cc Flat top pistons - 0cc Deck clearance - .75mm or .5mm after shave Standard head gasket would be 1.2mm squished, but I'm not sure if that will work. We have 93 octane locally (guess this isn't the wrong coast after all :fu: ) The block has been sitting in the weather for a bit (3 months) and is pretty rusty on the deck so I'm hoping that a .25mm mill will clean everything up. I tried using the Summit racing calculator and it comes up with 10.47:1 or 10.73:1 (unmilled vs milled) but I'm not sure if that is correct. Also trying to decide if I need a 1.2mm squished gasket or 1.5mm. Thanks in advance for the help.
  6. Ouch. LZ victory indeed :P Have you finished rebuilding that 5 speed you had by the garage yet?
  7. KA time postponed for a cat  Is that a new version of hoes before bros?
  8. Picking on the whiper snapper ftl :crying: It's cool though, I just hadn't seen any non-race spec 1200 coupes that I liked. Datsunfreak opened my eyes when he posted the white coupe he is slightly making a replica of :P Would you guys happen to have a source for OEM style water pumps? The one I got is one of those aftermarket ones with the thin blades. Loving the engine. Need more specs so I can copy you with my A15 :ninja:
  9. What's going on bro? I figured you'd be done with putting the engine together by now. Needs moar vroom vroom pics.
  10. I'd go blue. It would look nice with the white imo. If you had done the flares in black I would've said black :P Oh, and for some reason I completely missed this thread until this weekend. This is awesome. I never really liked the coupes because the two door sedans are so sexy, but now I'm torn between trying to find a 1200 coupe or sedan. I guess which ever one I stumble on first with enough cash in had will have to work.
  11. Lol, get some sleep yo! I can see it now, you're gonna assemble your KA and leave a glove in a cylinder cause you're all groggy eyed Really looking forward to seeing it all together. The amount of powder coating you have on that KA makes it look gorgeous. Also, loving the purple in the wagon, great choice. Once you're done with Jrock you should send him to the east coast so shipping doesn't kill me for getting my parts coated :poke:
  12. NOOOOOOoooooo!!!!!... Ok honestly that's not a bad choice. I'm looking at a modern vehicle as well so can't really say anything. Gonna miss the updates on elenor though :(
  13. I'm not saying his art, just some ratty datsun artwork and some clean datsuns as well. It would be awesome to have his style of art, but Mr. Skinny Jeans doesn't have the skills :fu:
  14. It's best to throw out the reciepts and hide all of the really expensive parts until you can't remember what they cost. That's the only way I can continue to justify buying more stuff for my non-running datsuns :P
  15. Wrecked my 620 shirt with ghost pepper curry :crying: Next year's designs should feature some Fisch style art imo. And please offer black :P For futue inspiration...
  16. That pic reminds me of that robot from those movies back in the 80s. Johnny 5 ftw :P Edit: Why am I bringing up a movie that came out 2 years before I was born
  17. Went to replace my fuse block and found out the terminals that connect to it are fried beyond repair. Put up a WTB ad but I'm thinking it may be better to just swap to a newer fuse block or replace the terminals with female crimp connectors.

It's a common problem, happened in my 74. If you want stock clips someone will have to trim a harness for you. I prob have a spare fuse box if needed

I get 13 on a sloppy L18 with a 32/36 and no tune... Got 10 on the GM rochester that the PO had swapped onto it when the hitachi died. Really need to find a carb tuner :P

MM47 has a very solid LZ. It was a major surprise to hear that it's only putting down 104hp. I rode in it back when he still had the 32/36 (I think) and it ran strong then even lacking fuel and dripping oil from the head gasket :P If you want to make decent power, follow his build, use hypereutectic pistons (stock replacement mitsubishi) instead of the Mahle and throw a previa or mercedes compressor on it. 2.2L with 9psi and a powerband of 2000-6000 would be ideal. Run it through R1s for their easy boostability. Some people suggest draw through but I can't find a decent plumbing design that wouldn't allow for fuel pooling either in the compressor or the charge tube. That is my overall goal. NA I would follow the standard LZ build and use milled down VG30 pistons. Go with Z22 crank, a closed chamber head, put a ton of $ into headwork, get a cam in the 2000-6500 range, large valves, high compression. Run dual DCOEs or SUs and get it dialed in perfectly. Maybe go up to a 7200 rpm cam, but your bottom band and idle will suffer.
  20. Nah, he want's the fuck. He's a boss like that
  21. Anyone have a lead on JDM B210 bumpers? I don't mind fiberglass or crappy chrome, just need straight bumpers that can be refinished.

  22. Trucker math does not compute > only log book 1 vs log books 2-6
  23. I'm kinda serious though... What's with all of the rain this year? We're like 20+ inches above normal. Figures, we're down here bitching about the rain and the PNW crew are busting out KA swaps in snow and high 20s weather  If we ever both have a running datsun/old jap import on the third Sunday of the month, we should all go to the oldschool meet. They need more imports.
  24. Hrm, Datsun people choosing a nissan over a toyota. Surprised? :P Honestly though from a repair standpoint the sentra seems to be the better choice. Cheaper, seems to be an easy fix, decent room fo a small family. Then again, I always run from camrys. IMO the camry is the most over-rated piece of :poop: sedan in the US. Every person I know with a camry has had problems, but then again all of them were second (or third) hand. Probably bad maintenance, but I'll stay away just in case.
  25. What's with the rain man. You north georgians need to keep that junk away from macon for a week so I can get my 620 goin :P
