  1. Hrm, that looks like a lot to remove, but I'm waiting to see how it work out. Should definitely be interesting. Mainly I'm wondering what this bracket is going to look like and where exactly it attaches to the block. This may be a pretty legit way to have a decent SR20 swap without worrying about how beat the internals are, but I'm still not sure. To me if you buy an engine that you do not know the condition of, then you should tear it down and check it out. But then again the only imported engines I've ever bought were honda and they are all beat anyway :P
  2. Yea, I know, just using what I have to work with :P These are parts I sourced a while back and finding a PnP Z22 for less than $300 isn't possible around here. Found a guy with a Z22 short block, he wanted $500 for it... Got the L20B short block for $52 thanks to MM47 :)
  3. Alright, currently I have 4.375 in the tear. I'm gonna test it with these gear because based on that calculator, this seems to fit what I want. 4.11 is another option or I could look into changing out the innerds with something lower, but I kinda doubt that's needed. Oh and don't worry about the old lady DTP. I shit like a ninja
  4. Well technically I'm not building a LZ. I'm taking a standard l20b, boring it to 87mm, using a z22 crank, and milled 87mm vg30 pistons. So more like an l20 stroker I guess.
  5. dvdswan that build is awesome. Great work being done there. Here are my very lazy inactive builds... Also found in my sig http://community.rat...e-build-thread/ 74 620 http://community.rat...ar/#entry877621 78 B210
  6. Holy cow DTP, that's awesome. You just answered it all in one swoop! This is why I wish to set up a tent on your lawn... Thank you for the confirmation on the trans. That will help greatly. I still may have some questions as to which rear end I should run, but with me having the "short" first and fifth, I think I'll try my current rear end and make changes as needed. I was worried I had the long gears so I had decided on building a standard LZ for a torquey street monster but maybe I could get away with the long rod build. Time for contemplation
  7. Welcome, you're in for a very slow ride... Goal is to be road worthy, low and slow bumping the A15 along, by June. I have tons of little parts to replace already, and pretty sure I'll find more that need to be replaced once I get started. If the rain subsides the wrenching will begin tomorrow. This is the perfect reason for me to skip thanksgiving with the family
  8. Oh my. What a story. Glad to hear you are getting back on your feet and you have found what looks to be an amazing project. Good luck to you :)
  9. The delivery got pushed back to Monday cause of the holidays. I was so pissed when I checked this morning. It's ok though, I have a ton of work I can do to the B210 if it stops raining.
  10. Oh? I only remember the blue one :( If they're both blue that would be why... Should probably catch up on a lot of builds. Maybe then I'll figure out something to wrench on :P
  11. B210? As far as shipping, tell me about it. The car I've been driving is gonna die any day now. Not much better than guns to reduce stress. Well, that and a running datsun :P EDIT: D'oh, I forgot about your bros B210
  12. No fair man! I don't know which spots are hot and which ones will drop me in dongville... But back to the wagon, don't want to get jrock excited... I'm really loving the A10. I'm just wondering why the A10 doesn't seem to be as loved as the older 510 goon? I actually like this body more... Torn between the A10 and a 710 for my favorite state-side goon but the B210 has my heart for best over all.
  13. Ok so yea, this should have probably been a private message, but this is a two part question. First and formost I need to know how to identify which ZX transmission I have. See back in February our resident ZX bro, DTP, sold me a transmission and shipped it all the way from Oregon to Georgia. I had every intention of installing this transmission at the time, but the truck ran and I had no other ride. Plus the whole flywheel, clutch, clutch fork compatability thing kinda confused me. Well now I am building my LZ and I would like to overhaul the tranny and prep it for install, but I forgot which tranny I bought... I'm almost certain it was from a '79, maybe. I do remember DTP saying I would have a long first gear. I figure my noobishness might actually help someone else because I remember someone mentioning that you can identify your trans by marking your output shaft and turning your input shaft so many times. Then check your output. Who ever had this information please point me in the right direction. Second question is can someone point me to a dummy proof version of gear ratio explanations? Once I figure out which trans I have I want to figure out which rear end I need to have decent highway drivability. Not asking to be completely spoon fed, but please show me the way to the kitchen. Thanks and hope you guys have a great holiday season.
  14. This is some kind of bonding going on in here. Glad to see the Minty love didn't get locked up for the season :P So, if DTP won't let me crash on his lawn to learn Datsun building, can I crash in your field naner?
  15. You scored big. I hate you so much right now... Pics or it didn't happen (I just want to see the pretty CA again)
  16. The CA will be a blast in a 210. That's a steal on the swap. Not gonna lie, I'm very jelly right now, but good luck. Also, congratulations to your son for his acceptance into the university. Personally I like the CA over anything SR because to me the engine looks more period correct. I'm not a huge performance freak, but the CA seems to have the perfect range and I've heard that up to the 250-300hp mark they will cost about the same to build as a SR. That being said, the stock CA will probably put down more than enough power. Since you have to replace the turbo and manifold anyway, you can do a slight upragde here and end up better than stock. I don't know what the stock internals can handle, but approx 15% would get you close to 160-170hp and tq at the wheels. More than enough for a work and school shuttle bus :)
  17. Screw you holidays! Now the matchbox is scheduled to be delivered on Monday... There goes getting my truck running by this weekend.

It's like if Van Halen only had the prospect of ugly women as inspiration..

Yeah back when adult women had hair and unlimited hydroplanes made engine noise.

Just trying to point you in the right direction. Good luck with the sale and your swap, but the classifieds section is watched closely, so just follow the rules and hopefully it will all work out? Yea, something like that.

Second time you posted this outside of classifieds. Please pay attention to forum rules. And again, IBTL! Just so you know, discussion doesn't mean post your ad here.
  20. Nice work. I love your oil cap :P Sorry, wasted a post to say I like your oil cap...
  21. Woah woah woah... Use classfieds, provide pics, build a reputation for being decent, then try to get $800 out of the other members... Priorities bro. IBTL!
  22. Hrm, $3k for a 510 with partially installed 240sx rear subframe (it rolls), pretty well rusted, no engine, a KA trans, no driveshaft, and about 30% of the interior is missing... Or $500 for a complete rolling 520 with a rusty bed and no engine or trans. Damn you LENO!!!!

Oh, and the kicker, 520 has title, 510 has bill of sale only "cause that's all you need for a car this old"...

    2. laotsu

      laotsu

520 of course, cheaper more complete and not hacked to shit by some tool.

Would absolutely love the 520. Going to see if I can swing it on the next check. Datsun Christmas ftw :)

  23. I was woirried to check this thread after page 3 at work cause i figured it'd be boobs by now. Don't boobs make everything better?
  24. Yay, now pics of progress fixing said missing parts :)
  25. Also check your fuse box for corrosion. Clean the terminals and replace the fuses if it looks dirty, gummed up, or discolored. Clean the contact points on your alternator. Your best friend will be a voltmeter. You will want to check battery voltage, as specified above. If the reading is low (less than 13.5 volts) with the car running, check the voltage at the alternator, it could be dirty wiring in between. Another neat (or annoying...) thing about some datsuns is that the charge light activates the alternator. Turn your key to the on position and see if the charge light comes on. If it does you are fine, if not, replace the bulb just in case.
