  1. Yea, mine is mid ways down the block. Mainly just want to make sure I have the bolts to replace everything. Figure if I'm going to take it apart I may as well replace it all.
  2. That is perfect, thanks Len :) Edit: Hopefully the one for the 1200 will be close enough for the A15 rebuild.

    LSD ????

True, I would have probably kept the R180, but $1k for the R190? that :poop: would be sold in a heart beat. Then again, $700 buys me another datsun so the R180 may of went as well... Sorry for the thread jack. Please continue.

    LSD ????

    A NOS 219 isn't easily found :P
  5. Looking for the exploded views to make sure I get everything for the rebuilds. Anyone know if the FSMs have these? Wanting to replace all of the bolts as well so that's why I need the full view. Also wondering how much zddp the oil these engines used in the 70s would've had. Found some oils with 1600ppm but want to make sure that is enough. I don't care about brand or synthetic vs conventional, just need to know how much zddp I should shoot for to be at the factory recommended level.

    LSD ????

It is a LSD. It should be from a 2000+ 2.5 RS. As far as better or worse, subbie forums says it's better but they are usually comparing a 2000+ unit with a 1990ish unit, so who really knows. It's apples to oranges. If you wanted a CLSD, get your money back and go with an aftermarket setup imo. Both VLSD and CLSDs wear out and most of the decently priced LSDs are going to be 15+ years old with no garuntee as to maintenance. If you just wanted the LSD for a street car, VLSDs usually last longer and are more forgiving as far as maintenance so I would stick with what you have.
  7. It's totaled. Sell it to mrbig so he can have a parts truck :P Honestly glad you're alright though. The damage isn't nearly as bad as I imagined it but it's probably worse than the pics seem. You need some of those cool deer horns from the 70s. They don't work but it would be a neat accessory Like these :P My dad's 70 something lincoln came with them stock but they were smaller and bolted onto the fenders
  8. It's a rare engine so parts are rough, but it is a great powerplant. By rare we're not talking regular SR/RB rare. It's like looking for a full EFI A-series setup. They exist, but only in photos... :P Make sure it is in decent condition. Getting a rare part that's junk is still just a piece of junk no matter how "cheap" it is. If it has serious problems or missing parts it could cost 2-10 times what you paid for it to get it running. Definitely check out mrbigtanker's thread and take a look at how lng it too him to get a crank pulley... FJ20 = Not for the daily driver IMO
  9. That flare changes the entire look of the car. Until recently I wasn't a fan of the 210, but the coupe has grown on me. That flare is amazing though. Wish they had come from the factory like that. It looks much better than the bolt on flares. What series tires are those on the 15s? They look good.
  10. Maybe check on these? They say they work with stock retainers but not sure how much better than stock they would be. http://www.camshaftshop.com/products.php?productid=41316 You could also contact Peter Zerkert and see if he has any GX springs available. He does have new GX cams according to his site so if you have an early A14, with the distributor by cyl 1, that would be a good option.
  11. Just note, the 1200 site will have a huge wealth of information on the topic. That being said, are you planning on forced induction or NA? Realisticly you aren't going to make huge power out of the A14 NA. 100 can be attained pretty easily with the setup you described not including larger valves, roller rockers, ect. Then the cost goes up to approx $500 for every 10hp over that mark. You also end up moving the RPM band higher making streetability lower. An interesting note, the A14 pistons and heads were designed together for the different chamber types. The quench heads had deeper dished pistons to retain driveable compression ratios. Here is some info on my closed chamber head from the 1200 site, note the piston statement: H89Oval-port Closed-Chamber was fitted to A14-powered B310 Coupe and Sedan in the JDM market (but not to Van (wagon). C120 came with A15 engine and H89 head. Closed-chamber is a non-emissions controlled head (no EGR). It is sometimes called "High Compression", but the compression is about the same as the open chamber (H72) head -- the compression is controlled by the piston dish, not the head. That said, you can contact Peter Zerkert for some quality high CR pistons or figure out which flat tops/dome pistons will work. Mr. Zerkert offers used race pistons as well. http://www.peterzekert.com/for-sale/engine/engine-components/138-used-datsun-a-series-race-pistons I believe max potential power is around 140 for NA, but you are going to spend a lot to get there. Even with forced induction I'm only shooting for the 110-120whp mark. Did you raise your ports like the GX had as well? The GX has raised ports for better flow into the chamber. Mostly this is a mod racers use because of their high RPM band, but it may be worth looking in to for max power. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Cylinder_Head_Modifications
  12. LOL! ... wait... was that sort weird west coast form of innuendo?
  13. I'd stick with the round top and hold on to the flats for parts or spares. If the high RPM fall off can be tuned out then there isn't really a reason to move to 46s so the 38 rounds would be your ticket. Just make sure they are in good shape and learn about tuning. I'm personally scared of SUs cause I don't understand tuning them (never taken one apart), but the great thing is they are pretty much set and forget. You hear way less horror stories about falling out of tune with SUs than you do with other sidedrafts.
  14. If that's the case you could go with a low RPM range cam grind and be all set. Schnieder has a .480 lift that goes from 2200-6400 and a .460 for 2500-6600 so there are options for a nice city cruiser :)
  15. 74 620 with L18, 4 speed, stock as far as I know, with a 32/36 that is jetted as it came out of the box from webercarbs direct. I get 13-15mpg mixed 40-75mph driving ranges. It really needs a good tune...
  16. According to Z therapy, you want the domes. There are rumors going around that with correct tuning flats can be amazing, but Z therapy says they are trash. They won't even accept them as cores. http://www.ztherapy.com/technical_stuff/spotterguides/zcar/240spotter.htm Edit: looks like if they are flats and square port they are trash, other flats may be ok? If you can, call Z therapy and ask them.

    LSD ????

Pretty sure it is VLSD. 2000+ 2.5RS came with the R160 with the same LSD you have and they are being called VLSD on every Subbie post I can find. The guy may not know or he is trying to get over on people, but either way the newer VLSD is also said to be better than the old clutch designs so unless you plan on getting an aftermarket LSD or a new factory CLSD (not even sure these exist?), you got a decent unit. Edit: However, decent or not, if you paid for a CLSD and got the VLSD and don't want it, you should be able to get a full refund through Ebay.

    LSD ????

That ebay posting is two seperate LSDs. The first pic you refered to was notated as the "old school" Vlsd, the second pick was the cover with the "New style" VLSD. Picture 14 on the posting explains it and shows the #5 stamped cover.
  19. Hrm, that's not so bad them. If they have one for the B210 when I call back tomorrow I'll get it, if not I'll buy the 1200 one. I was worried it might hit something underneath like the steering or any mounts due to being a different chassis. Actually, if the collector hits/is close to the floor that will make it easier to tuck the exhaust for the lows. win win!
  20. Meant to tell you thanks for the Kirk link. They told me they would have to check and get back with my because they weren't sure if an A12 header would fit a B210 with A15. If not I may be able to get one imported through them for my setup but the price tag is more than I paid for the car :P

    LSD ????

Another picture comparing the new LSDs to old LSDs that we are used to: Link is a for sale thread, pic and explanation is post #20 http://mnsubaru.com/threads/4-111-r160-vlsd.34148/

    LSD ????

Um, it looks like the LSD one from this post, kinda: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f89/rear-differential-lsd-vs-non-lsd-pics-inside-19774/ LSD is on the right
  23. Love those datsunfreak. Question thogh, why didn't we get these here and if we did where can I find one: Not saying the pink works for me, but I love the mini cab over. I've looked into the Lil Pete kit truck and the old 40-50s cab overs but meh, japanese = moar better... Oh Tristin, is this guy doing it right? ... This is better :P
  24. Haha, here I thought you were gonna post a ratsun. I was gonna post a hairless rat as well :P
